So, has anyone been watching those would be Senators debating around the state? They were just here in Chattanooga, at UTC debating. I watched the entire thing. I have to say, Tennessee looks like we will be getting a whimpy Specter type if the R wins, or another Obama if the D does. What do y'all think?

I think Ford is going to win and I don't like it. I also didn't particularily like Corker's methods as mayor of Chattanooga. City workers were in fear for their jobs if they said anything that was negative about their fine mayor (so I hear). I wish the Republicans had a different candidate.

It's his in the bag is the consensus here in Nashville, I even heard that from more than one GOP official at a recent party. Corker's attack ads have killed him, in real life he's a really nice guy but by playing the 'attack ad game' with Ford he has offered nothing to the moderates, the far right already know he is as Republican as they are but he has wasted his air time reiterating and reinforcing that instead of appealing to the undecided middle-of-the-roaders.
He should've done a few ads outlining what it is he stands for, not what Ford's been up to.
Junior does have spectacular acumen though, I've witnessed him remember multiple names in instances that were nothing short of bizarre, it has been said that politicians are just charmers with advisors, well Junior is certainly capable of putting on lots of the charm.

I like what Ford says overall. My fear is as a rookie Senator he will be forced to vote the Democratic party line. I don't like the party line. He voted for the Mexican border fence thing only because he felt it benefited him politically. He is estimated to have over 90% of the Black vote in the state. That is pretty significant. He will vote in favor of stronger gun control measures if it comes up in my opinion just like Gore. Again, the Republicans have the wrong candidate running.

Ford is a leftist. Look over his hold votes at ontheissures.org. Up until '04, when he realized he couldn't win as a strong gun control pro-abortion leftist, he was as far to the left as Nancy Pelosi. It is very interesting to see the switch he made almost overnight in an attempt to look moderate. There is no doubt in my mind he is our enemy. You say you like most of what he says, well, check this. This is how he has been rated in the past, and whoever runs that website was dead on with analysis IMO.

Corker is probably no better on gun issues. He raised taxes, spent millions on certain pet projects, and is owned by whoever can buy him. He would sell us out in a heartbeat, of that I have no doubt.

We have disagreed about things in the past, but you are probably right. Ford really does have a massive amount of charisma. Up until I watched this debate tonight, I figured Corker was going to win, I was thinking with 55%. Now, I am not so sure.
The guy who runs the TFA chapter in Knoxville mentioned meeting Ford in 04, and commented that he was a VERY smooth guy. Between Corker running a patheticly weak campaign, being a bad choice (don't blame me, I voted for Bryant), the general anti-Republican air, a weak GOP gubernatorial candidate, a strong Dem gubernatorial candidate a strong senatorial candidate, all his liberal support evaporating now that he is the 'conservative' in the race, and being against a really skilled scumbag, he may very well loose. The more I think about this, the more I am sickened that I may have a Senator Ford.
The part that really sticks in my jaw, is that I may change my mind and vote for Corker just because Ford is so awful. I really hate voting lesser of two evils, but in this case, it looks about like Kerry vs Bush did. Damned Van Hilleary HAD to run. Had it been Bryant vs Corker, and not a three way, this race wouldn't even be close. I think Bryant could walk all over Ford.

If Corker looses, you can probably blame Bush for part of it. Bush needs to do something that works in Iraq quick. I support the war in Iraq on the basis that Hussein had to go and Iraq (if Democratic) could be the flower of the Middle East and the seed that educates and changes the region to more democratic forms of government.

Agreed on the pathetic choices we are being given hso. Corker played the primary exceedingly well, and the conservatives got shafted. Between the split vote and lefties coming over and voting for him, we really got screwed. Now a good chunk of Corkers support is going to Ford, because they never supported him in the first place, they just wanted to ensure that the good candidates were knocked off.

Ford voting for more gun control will have to be done on low visability issues. He can woo Memphis and Nashville, but ET and the rural remainder of the state won't be very receptive. If he wants to be a one term senator he'll screw with us, but if he wants to get into the senate a second time he better lay low on the RKBA bashing.

Not only am I convinced of the "all incumbents out" approach, I have just about decided to vote for anyone whose name I DO NOT recognize.
The folks to which we have entrusted the leadership of our country have failed miserably. the only two for whom I have any respect are Fred Thompson and Jesse Ventura.
They both ran to achieve certain goals, and having achieved same, got the hell out and back into private (well, not political) life.

I guess it is more accurate to say that I am pretty liberal on social issues like entitlements, and very conservative on issues like gun control and international / military issues. I was a Chaplain in the Air Force, and believe in the Constitution of this country. I also feel that we as a nation need to make sure that our children are fed and medically cared for before we do the same for other countries. I am not sure how I will vote in the election. I know that my views are a bit scrambled, but somehow it works for me.
