For my wife and I

Regarding the sigma/charter arms combo:
I carry a sigma, and while the trigger kinda sucks, I like it. For $300 you can't beat it.
My mother carries a pink charter arms .38. She's like 5' 1 110lbs, conceals and shoots it well. Its made pretty well for ~$350. Plus it comes with a "cute" pink gator skin case she can use for a make up case or something, haha.
For first carry guns, and on a budget, that's an excellent combo IMO.

Wise choices

Emartinez, I like your choices. My CCW for daily use is my Keltec 3AT, while my wife hates autoloaders and likes a revolver best. I prefer my G17 when weather here in east Tx permits for concealed carry or for my truck gun. Wife will use a S&W 66 shooting 38s, but really prefers my Ruger single six in .22 (please no caliber wars). She can consistently keep them in about a 2" pattern at 25 ft--I figure 6 on target is better than a dozen all over the place.

I have owned a Hipoint and never had a moments problem with mine. Sold it for no other reason than to fund another purchase that really "spoke" to me...

You two (three now) take care of yourselves.

I think whatever you both decide I would get plenty of range time and that will give you an idea on how reliable they are. If it's not up to your standards then trade up. A small frame .38 is a good choice as it is simple and reliable. That is what my wife has considered since she would only be looking at it as a simple tool for her if needed. She's not interested in spending a lot of time at the range with a semi-auto. Personally I carry a G26/CBST holster when I can, but always have a Keltec P3AT in my pocket. Be sure and store them properly when not on your person.

Understandable about the alarm system. But if anyone here has been to killeen texas or lives near killeen. You will soon find out. Alarms don't bother them. Killeen is infested with drug dealers and prostitutes. I refuse to be un protected and must be ready when the zomvies show up...lmao. jk

My suggestions:

Move. I wouldn't want to raise my kids in a drug dealer and hooker nest.

Get one of these unless you all are going to get really familiar with guns.

Byrd, checked out those links, and researched that Sigma.. i like it. next weekend im already slotted to rent it. :)

looks perfect for what i need. now i need to make sure its what i want.

a buddy of mine let me shoot his keltec. i really like his weapon as well..

so for an update, the other day i was at work, and apparently..my wifes sister told some guy she had been talking to and barely knows to come to my house and wait for her. the guy tried to rape my wife and my wife was able to tell him to get out or she was calliong the cops. he left, we made a report and i bought her a can of MK-2 mase until we get everything in order for our CHL stuff..

Mace is certainly better than nothing.

Some jurisdictions provide for the ability to issue an emergency permit for a person who is in a position where there is a reasonable expectation that they are in immediate danger. If that guy might come back after your wife that would be worth looking into.

And that's one situation where the utter simplicity of a "point and shoot", DA revolver might be the absolute best, near-term solution until you both get your training and do your research.

agree with you 100 percent killer. thats why i spent the money. it something for her to have until we get our weapons..

i did settle on the Smith and wesson Sigma 9MM from buds gun shop.

i went down to my local gun shop and held it and looked at ammo pricing.

i think im going to go ahead and buy it. you guys gave me tons...of great information!

at the moment im ordering my application for myself and wife to apply for CHL in texas. im also looking into instructors and what not.

b efore i take the class, i do plan on putting plenty of ammo down range.

Emartinez

I'm sure you already looked into this but, just in case the link to to the Texas CHL site is below. If it's any consolation, I also have have a couple in-laws that are about as bright as a burned out light bulb. Glad to here it worked out okay though.

I've been through and did some work in the Kileen area many years ago and it wasn't great back then. Sounds like it's getting a whole lot worse.

I appreciate it.

Thabk u for the link. Ill take a look when I get off work.

Its not getting better. And the police are already busy. I can't take a chance
