This morning WTKR News Channel 3 reported on a shooting in North Carolina. In big letters it read ASSUALT RIFLE SHOOTING. WAVY TV 10 and 13 News just reported it as any other shooting. So I encourage anyone that watches WTKR to write to them as I did and switch to a less biased TV station. Here's a copy of my e-mail.

In the news report about the shooting in NC this morning. I would like to know
why it was pointed out specifically to be what some deem as an "assault rifle"
When any other shooting is reported on your news anchors don't mention the type
of firearm used. Does this make the crime any worse? Or is this the type of spin
that's purposely put on the story to further an anti gun agenda? Since 13 News
has reported the story with no anti gun slant I will be getting my news from
them from now on and I will be encouraging others to do so.

Here's the definition of an assault rifle.

A military rifle intended purely for one-man operation and equipped to provide
both semiautomatic or full-automatic fire by means of a selector switch or other
fire-control device. Today's assault rifles are typified by the Soviet AK 47 and
the US AM 16.

Unless they stole the gun from the military or a law enforcement armory then
what they had was not an assault rifle

Here's a reply I got today from WTKR

It is unusual.
It is also unusal for police to give us that information so soon after the shooting.
They did this time and we reported it.

The specific type of weapon was a SKS 7.62 X 39 assault rifle

All of the Norfolk stations like to sensationalize the news. At least WAVY gets the weather right most of the time.
