The North South Skirmish Association is shooting Regional Skirmishes again. Next one in the NC area is on Mar 20/21 at Allison Woods Learning Center just north of Statesville, NC. We are NOT a reenactment group. We ARE a competitive shooting organization centered around Civil War era arms including artillery and mortars.

On Mar 20, the schedule will most likely be individual bullseye type competition with part of the range dedicated to letting guests get some trigger time on Civil War arms at targets similar to what we shoot. Late morning the focus will shift to competition. I'd have to check the final schedule but if it's run like the last one we held pre plague, the order will be Revolvers, Smoothbores, then Carbines and Repeaters last. On Sunday am, we have a ceremony and then move into Musket competition. Sometimes the Repeater class gets moved to Sunday after muskets. We shoot as teams in head to head competition at breakable targets against the clock, fastest time/most targets wins. In all the types of competition I've shot, I haven't found one like this or as much fun.

From Statesville, take I77N past the I77/I40 interchange. The first exit is Hwy21. Take that exit, at the bottom of the ramp turn right onto Hwy21. Go 3.5mi till you cross the Little Yadkin river (a creek really) and Allison Woods Outdoor Learning Center is on the right. We're at the back of the property where the range is set up. We'd be glad to have guests visit.

Here's a link to some video of what we do. It was shot at our home range in Winchester, VA. The firing line will accommodate 73 eight man squads at once and is controlled from 3 towers. There's probably no range in the US or even the world like it.

I wish you guys would cross over the Mississippi and bring NSSA shoots to the rest of the lower 48.

Especially since the Skirmish started hundreds of miles west of the Mississippi...

The regional skirmishes do look like fun though!

The Regionals will have some "non standard" events in the rotation. My dad really had a ball at one where the targets were 5 ping pong balls and 5 marbles all hanging on strings at 25yd. It was a somewhat breezy day and the targets were moving. My 87yo dad nailed all the ping pong balls and 4 of the 5 marbles, all with an 1863 Sharps carbine. One of my favorite non standards is the "junkyard" where it could be anything out of a trashcan except glass hanging on a string at 50yd. Try to hit an individual coffee creamer or a ketchup pack taped to a thread at 50yd. It can be done!

drobs,

why don't you paddle over in a Jon Boat and and get a load to take back with you?

It ain't like 'they' are hording it all. It takes folks like you that wanna do this to build it up out in the wilds of the west.
