For those who said police are anti-gun...

Not real suprising. Most rank and files are ok with civilians owning guns. It's the "management" that isn't, who are merely politicians anyway.

Like any poll you can pick and choose who you want to particpate and skew the numbers anyway you want. Statistical analysis is not an exact science.
OK, fine. I'll put on my tin foil hat too. Let's assume that they skewed the numbers to suggest that police chiefs are more in favor of gun rights and CCW than they really are. If the National Association of Chiefs of Police is skewing polls in this manner, doesn't that speak volumes in and of itself?

Either way, we win. Either the poll is accurate and a great majority of chiefs of police are on our side OR they are skewing the poll for some unknown reason because they WANT to be perceived as being on our side.

This is a poll of Chiefs and Sheriffs, not the rank and file. So you think then that the rank and file numbers would be even better? :) I hope you're right.

It really depends on your location also. I live by a dying military base. In the past our PD was made up of a lot of ex-MPs who thought they were God Almighty themselves. They viewed anyone with a firearm as a threat to them. Thankfully most have calmed down as they transitioned from military life or moved on. Now we are getting a new breed. There are several that I know of who really don't want to carry a firearm themselves. As mentioned before, they are more of a social worker with a badge.

Exactly. I don't know what world some of you people are living in but 66% of police chiefs supporting RTC is more than the general public I'd wager on.
Am I the only one that thinks that Police Chiefs , who hold considerable power over us residents of their domains, ought to universally respect our rights? :scrutiny:

It shouldn't be a friggin' popularity contest. :fire:

" My local sheriff actively supports CCW, often attending CCW classes on weekends. When he took office, he immediately put handgun permit and CCW forms online to make it easier for citizens to apply. He has also been quoted a number of times in the paper saying that it would be beneficial to reducing crime if more citizens owned personal firearms and learned to be proficient with them. Sheriff's deputies recently helped organize a senior games shooting competition locally, providing Ruger MKIIs for the event and even bringing along an MP5 to let the folks there take turns shooting it for fun."

DMK:

Wow, your sheriff rocks... (especially compared to my POS sheriff Ken Jenne, who LIED on CNN trying to convince the public that a full-auto AK was much more destructive than a semi AK)

It's really strange, I never thought I would ever experience sheriff envy...

Yes, you're the only one.

Seriously, where I live Police Chiefs only hold considerable power over the residents who break the law and I, for one, like it that way. Secondly, well minding people can disagree on exactly what a right is. The police chiefs seem to almost universally agree that we have the right to own weapons which is a good thing. About a third apparently don't believe however that the 2nd ammendment also confers the right to concealed carry. They are wrong and that is a bad thing.

This is a gun site so it is not surprising that we all march pretty much in lock step when it comes to gun rights here. However, let's consider another issue that is more in the public eye than even gun rights, abortion. Many well minding people on this site feel that a woman has a right to choose. Others feel that the child has a right to life. I'm not bringing this up to start an abortion debate only to illustrate that people often disagree, honestly, on what are rights and what are not and which rights trump other rights.
