This may seem like an odd question... but, are fore stock retaining nuts (between manufacturers) made with a common/standarized thread?

My reason for asking is this... I have a Winchester 1200 Police pump. When I purchased my Knoxx SpecOps stock for it, the website simply implies "Winchester 12ga". When the stock arrived, the package implies Winchester 1300. The rear stock fits like a glove. The forestock is made in such a way that the retaining nut needs to nestle inside the forestock by about 1 3/8" before it engages the threads to hold the forestock on. Being that the retaining nut is 1.39" OD (according to my dial caliper), the nut is "proud" and "will" go down inside the forestock with some persuassion with a wooden dowel and a mallet.

Yes, I can get a 1.25" dowel and wrap some sandpaper around it and open the mouth of the forestock... but, if I can buy a smaller "OD" retaining nut and call it good... I'd prefer to go that route. I called Winchester yesterday... the nice lady who answered the parts/service wasn't much help.

Anyone know of a retaining nut which has a smaller OD than 1.39" and has the same threads as the Winchester's?

Pic of retaining nut holding the pistol grip in place and the depth of the new forestock the retaining nut will have to nestle into to contact threads.

Molded polyplastic will often contract a bit when it comes out of the mold and sets up/hardens. I'd open up the recess the forearm tube nut has to go into a bit were I you, before putting the forearm on the tube. As a rule the nuts are specific to the manufacturer and are pretty finely threaded, I don't make it a habit to abuse them and they generally behave pretty well for me.

fwiw,

Yeah... that was my "plan b" if a new nut wasn't doable. I did a little more snooping on the subject and it would appear that there is NO "industry standard" for the retention nuts... everybody's afraid of someone using "the wrong parts" on "their design". Yeah... I can understand critical parts that are used to fire/aim... but c'mon... we're talking about a fore stock retaining nut ! LOL C'est la vie. Thanks for the input... much appreciated.
