Are their any FFL holders on TFL that can explain the 4473 to me?

I would like to interview someone that can walk me through a Form 4473 on my new show the Urban Shooter. What you’ll be doing actually is helping the new guy understand how to buy a firearm legally. Something that no one has taken the time to share to Generation Next. We’ll set up a time and I’ll call you. It will be a podcast* that you can find now on iTunes or on my site. http://feed.urbanshooter.info BTW, I changed it from Black Man With A Gun LIVE! to The Urban Shooter.

Also I am looking for ideas for the next show. If you have one or two, send it to me. blackmanwithagun @gmail.com If you want your gun biz to be promoted during the show, I am up for that too.

*The word ”podcast” is a concatenation of the words iPod and broadcast. Podcasting is a way of publishing radio and video shows to the web, allowing people to subscribe to a show and receive new "episodes” automatically. Podcasting consists of publishing XML files which contain references to media (called “enclosures”) to a website. Unlike terrestrial and Internet radio, podcasts are time-shifted, meaning that listeners have control over when and where they hear their favorite programming. And, the episodes are delivered automatically to a subscriber on iTunes so the latest updates are always readily available with no effort required by the listener.

This whole phenomenon is usually free and is basically a new form of radio. Everyone with a cell phone that can download MP3 files, every computer and all the new iPods and Mp3 players sold to kids to change their CD’s into digital media have this capability.

I can't really officially walk you through it, but I recall, as you probably do, that it goes something like this:

Name:
Address:
SSN:
No
No

Ken, I'm an FFL and have to go through a lot of these. What do you need? I would be happy to help.

You'll want to prepare a clear example of the "yes" question, "Are you buying this firearm for yourself?" and explain what a "straw man sale" is. The trick is to explain what doesn't apply, say a parent purchasing a gift for a minor child, without coming across as giving advice on how to evade it.

You may want to run that explanation by a few folks before actual publication(?). What's the term for putting out a podcast?

Kenn,
I can't listen to your show right now since I'm at work, but possible ideas for a show:
Home Defense Options: Carbine vs. Shotgun vs. Handgun
Shooting Sports: IDPA, Skeet, 600-yd rifle
Buying a gun online
The Four Rules
Securing Firearms in a Home with Children

thanks

Thanx for the suggestions. Going to take you up on the help C. Is it really all no's like that. It's been awhile since I've bought a firearm.

Kenn

Been awhile since you bought a gun? BMWG, ouch, that hurts our ears here!:D I filled out two 4473s just today.

No, the first question on the new white 4473 asks if you are the actual buyer of the firearm. I answer "yes" but I wish someday you guys would remember my birthday and buy me guns.

*kicks rocks, shoves hands in pockets* No, no, no, it's O.K., I'll just be over here, feeling forgotten, no reason to buy me a gun or 20. *weeps softly under desk*

I suggest a new segment for your podcast. Hangin' with Larry C.

We can sit around and ask Larry to defend the production scheduling of the gun industry.

"Our first caller is Mr. Badger in Lafayette, Indiana."
"Hi, Larry, long time caller, first time listener. Where are the ZIG556s? Can I get a Ruger XGI with my ZIG?"

:D

BMWAG, glad you're back!

Keep us posted on the podcasts.

You might consider a philosophical show discussing the utter stoopidity of assigning human characteristics to metal objects.

Four rules is good

Enthusiasm for responsible shooting sports

Different kinds of shooting competition.

Concealed carry laws and how it really works. Discuss how CCH packers are not a bunch psychotic killers in waiting.

Self defense stories vs dialing 911 and dying.

thanks Waitone

good suggestions. I just uploaded a new show last night but I am still learning this thing. With Show #3 I have a monologue I hope my son's friends take a listen to this weekend.

I would like to get a different person to talk about each of these great suggestions. Any volunteers for:

Home Defense Options: Carbine vs. Shotgun vs. Handgun
IDPA,
Skeet
600-yd rifle
Buying a gun online
The Four Rules
Securing Firearms in a Home with Children
Enthusiasm for responsible shooting sports

Black Powder

You could run a show on black powder guns, single action revolvers, and Cowboy Action Shooting. Two of my best buddies from work called themselves "blacknecks". They were both terminal Gunsmoke addicts, and could write a book on Black cowboys. Remember Danny Glover in Silverado?

I find it amusing that when the Form 4473 was revised in '05 it went from a two page form to a three page form and the Gov't added a line on the back referring to the Paperwork Reduction Act !!!

Actually it is a six page (front to back) form and I relate to it when I am doing a gun sale (also alluding to the reduction in paperwork act)..... I work for a major sporting goods store (that begins with A).

It's good to see you here.

My own observation is that black people are discouraged (sometimes subtly) from owning guns and practicing with them. I don't like that. And it is a bad thing for this country, especially for its gun owners in general. If the discouragement that I've seen comes from within black communities I hope that you can help overcome it. We need more people of color (all races and ethnic groups as well) as gun owners and it should be encouraged. I don't want to be chewed out for sexism again but we especially need black women gun owners.

For what it's worth, I'm a grumpy, old, white male.

yeah baby

It’s a long shot but my goal with this podcast is to touch a few more people. Our love of freedom, the internet and the shooting sports connect us. I have read more honest thought and discussions on THR than on any other forum. Yeah, every now and then we get off track but for the most part, it is why I come here when I need inspiration, or help.

I am hoping with a little help from my friends (like you) that we use this thing to break down barriers and have more fun. I just ordered some more techno crap so that I do a better job of broadcasting but keep the suggestions coming. I’ll be the Dick Clark of the gun movement if I can do this thing right. I am working with a 20-something person I taught how to shoot to be my co-host soon. As soon as she gets up to speed, you’ll hear her. My plan is to follow your lead, knowledge and experiences and share them with the world.

If you would like to work with me, please send me an email with contact numbers and what you will be called on for as a subject matter expert so I can call you as I plan the programming for the next shows. Then I can either use you as a featured guest for the show or my fact finder.

Imaginos- hook me up with your BlackNeck friends please.
Robert H- thanks bro I am with you on the sista search.

Lady Smith:

It's nice to be needed.

Of course you are. Without a wife, no man could find his keys. Every man needs the help of a little woman.

Kenn:

Good. This is important. Not to beat the subject into the ground but artificial divisions of any kind hurt everyone really badly.

That aside, people (especially Americans) need the ability to defend their own lives and those of their families. Of course I am not talking about taking the law in one's own hands or "street justice." Awful concepts, those. I am talking about taking primary responsibility for ones own life. There is no benefit in being a victim or in being manipulated into thinking that society at large benefits when it submits to predators. If you submit, I get hurt too. And if I submit, sooner or later you will bleed.

But I'm not even talking about self-defense only. Shooting (especially so-called "tactical" or "combat" shooting) is a good sport for husbands and wives together. Once they learn the basics, especially of gun safety, they learn to coordinate as a team. They develop or refine their ability to work towards a common goal, and it soon becomes a reflex. There's no doubt about when it isn't working or why: it's immediately obvious. And it's a darned good feeling for both people when it begins to work and as it improves.

For the rest of us, there's the enormous benefit of being in a society that increasingly understands and appreciates that guns are merely instruments: machines that have no moral value in themselves, neither good nor bad. Bad people use them to do bad things. Good people use them to do good things.

All of us need to encourage and welcome good people to do good things. Otherwise we all lose. But much of the initiative must come from the good people themselves. And it really gripes me when they don't take the initiative because they allow themselves to be manipulated into thinking that there's something wrong with it. There's nothing wrong with a mother being able to defend her kids and everything right with families that work together for their common benefit and the benefit of a stable society.

Rats. I made a speech. My apologies.
