Found a DW model 15 for $325...good deal?

I found a model 15 Dan Wesson 6" .357mag at a local gun store for $325 and am first wondering if its a good deal or not. I may try to get it closer to $300 w/ a cash deal. My other question is what do I look for in a used revolver as far as visable possible problems. It is used so its bluing is not perfect but It cycled fine and all other functions of the revolver seemed to work just fine. Do you bother w/ a rattle test like a 1911 would get or is that not necessary? I forgot to add it does not come w/ a case or the tools which is a bummer since I would like to get a 4" barrel for it also. How would it be for ICORE or other competition shooting? The only tools you would need is a barrel wrench 20.00 and a feeler guage 5.00. Unloaded, pull the hammer back and let it down with your finger holding the trigger. Then try pushing and pulling the cylinder forwards (towards barrel) and backwards (towards grip) It shouldn't have much play (1/16 most) Check under the top strap on the frame, above the forcing cone for excessive flame cut. If those are good, I might buy it. Dan Wesson are accurate revolvers in my opinion.

What grips are on the gun? Is the barrel shroud half or full lug, is it vented? Does it have the barrel tool?

The DW I found looks almost exactly like the second auction you listed from gunbroker...even the grips look the same. unfortunately it does not have the tool or spacer included. I like the looks of the 3rd auction w/ the two barrels...exactly what I want! I have a feeling it will go well over $450 for it though.

Go over to danwessonforums . Good info there. There is also a guy that makes custom grips and EWK that makes sites, tools, barrels and shrouds and anything wesson can be covered.

There are some good sources on what to check on a used revolver if you google it. The Dan Wessons are typically a fine revolver and as has already been said they are normally very accurate. They aren't worth much on resale or holding their value but if you want a good serviceable revolver at a good price they are a great way to go. I'd say if it checks out okay buy it.

If it is in good shape it is worth every penny. If it was around here I would turn my buddy on to it. He's looking for a deal on a quality gun.

Another question, how do I tell what model it is...15 or 15-2? Do all the barrels available (except the older pork chop style barrels) work on the 15 since it is older then the 15-2?

If it's not a porkchop and is blue it is a 15-2

For $325 usually you can get much lesser guns and it would constitute a good deal too.

On gunbroker there's a seller jdr12345 He has (had) new DW's and has new shrouds and barrels. He worked at DW in Palmer when they shut down. You might want to talk to him. I did and he helped me out, he's a great guy.
