I've found an excellent WWII era Arisaka rifle with the crysanthemum intact, and the anti-aircraft ears attached. It appears 90-95% with a sharp bore. It has the original monopod in place, too

The guy is asking 300 dollars for it. Is that a deal?

I usually stay toward the GI side of things, and I know nothing about Japanese rifles.

If you get it consider buying two or three 'auxillarycartridges' which take 32 acp and feed thru magazine. Even if you reload, these things are fun and really don't put any wear and tear on a collector gun. ;) Most of these guns have chromed bores, which you can see around muzzle, and are like new. $300 is good if the unground gun is cherry, including stock. Now you need a nice bayonet!

What model is it? The intact mum is getting harder to find. Nice to have a part of the emperor's possesions. :)

Must be a T99 with those features.
Does it have the bolt cover also?

$300 is not a steal, but if it's in really great shape you may want to buy it.
As stated above, make sure all the numbers match. Nice ones are getting harder to find.

I think Arisaka's are sleepers right now. I predict the price on nice ones will go up sharply in the next 5 years.

You heard it here first. ;)

See if you can get it down closer to $250. You'll pay the other $50 buying a box of 20 rounds. 7.7 Jap is very expensive, and not easy to find. Norma makes it, some people fabricate it from cut down brass.

I have seen repro bolt covers. I think Sarco may have them. (Not that you would ever want it on while shooting anyway)

Grafs.com has it for real cheap.

I wouldn't worry too much about the price, if you can afford it, get it for the best price you can. I very rarely saw them down here, and normally they were high priced online, so when I found a few of them, I just picked them up after making sure I wasn't being seriously taken.

7.7 Jap brass is SKU GRU77X58
6.5 Jap Brass is SKU GRU65X50 $27.99 for 100 pieces

Loaded ammo.

6.5 SKU HRN80485
7.7 SKU HRN80490 they are 19.99 for $20 from Hornady.

Of course, C&R license holders are slightly cheaper. :D

Am I blind??

The Grafs search thing doesn't work to great... the ammo shows up searching Japanese. The brass doesn't show up searching Jap...

This might be an "investment vehicle."
I bought 2 Arisaka for about $30 each 20 or so years ago neither were as nice as you describe but either would bring $150 at an absolute minimum these days, mums are getting real hard to find
