So I work on the side at Walmart.... gah! but anyways...

While working I noticed this 'Keep It Dry Closet Dehumidifier' in the vacume area where all the stinky mothballs are :barf: it sells for under $4

Keep your home smelling great with the Keep It Dry Closet Dehumidifier. Drying crystals help remove unwanted moisture and keep odors away. The container is designed with a moisture-permeable trim that locks in liquid and won't leak or spill.

there is also a Gun answer on it as well

I use one in a rather large gun/fire safe and it lasts for a year.

I am curious as to how many people use this for thier ammo/gun storage? What others do you recommend that are as cheap as this? I am thinking about getting one for my ammo tub, but id like to get some opinions.

thanks

Probably just silica gel like those little packets that come in boxes of shoes.

Some kitty litters also contain silica gel. You can buy it on Midway as well. I guess how good the price is determines whether it is a good buy or not.

I've seen ear drying stuff cost a huge amount more than the 91% rubbing alcohol that is very similar and would work just as well.

i use those in my cases. Down here (FL), they don't last too long; usually a month or two. My biggest problem with them is some times the absorbant in the upper part solidifies and I have to break it apart every other week when it gets truely nasty feeling outside. They work well enough, and are cheap enough that i don't mind replacing them regularly.

they have the same thing at some dollar stores around here if any you
guys are gonna use it try there 1st could be cheaper then wallyworld

I use one in my closet, it lasts about a year and it does take water out of the air but I live in a very dry climate

How long those last depends on your climate and where you place the crystals.

I live in North Texas and indoors, inside my safe, those last 6-8 months (because my a/c is running)

In the garage, inside the same safe......expect two weeks.

Do you think you could "recharge" these packs like some other dehumidifier packs by applying a low heat like a 200-250 degree oven? I have a Remington Eva-Dry dehumidifier that you plug in once it indicates its "full" and then it heats up and dries itself out. If a $4 pack from walmart works the same, I may go grab a couple.

I have something like this. It's dubbed "moisture eliminator" and also says it eliminates odor. Claims it lasts 60 days. I've had one in a humid room and am using a hygrometer to see if it makes a difference. In the first 30 days the humidity went down about 5-7%, currently it is getting close to the 60 day mark and humidity is approximately the same as before. I bought 4 of them from a dollar store for $1, so I'm not complaining. It works, but its not a miracle in a box. Main ingredient is calcium chloride dihydrate, so I would say no on the recharging question.
