My company sent me to our branch in Waterbury CT today, which delivers the NY Times, Post, Daily News, and CT Post today, and I had a few minutes so I figured I'd read one of em. Here's one story in particular that really irritated me, because the author is blaming gun laws in South Carolina for NYC's failure to stop criminals from getting their hands on pistols.

There's the link to the article, if you'd like to contact the author regarding your opinions on this matter, his email address is in the left hand column on that page.

Adding More Laws to Break

"A Sumter resident named Stanley Parks had the necessary driver's license, but a felony conviction would have prevented him from passing the background check. He allegedly recruited his girlfriend as well as two male friends to purchase 26 guns to resell illegally in New York."

Yeah, so what NY Daily News? Straw purchases are already illegal. The guy broke existing laws in order to get his hands on guns. Then he broke more laws transporting them interstate, then broke more laws selling them without an FFL. SO HOW DOES PASSING MORE LAWS ADDRESS THIS??? :banghead:

ummm, makes us poor little sheeple feel better???????

It is pretty ridiculous, let's pass laws against everything. Oh, too late, someone took that seriously.

NYC should try a novel new approach - put criminals in prison.

To be honest, LA doesn't want to do that either because there are too many leaches living off the legal system - lawyers, clerks, judges, public defenders, etc.

The South

in general gets a bad rap for illegal firearms getting into the northeast
United States. I can say that as a firearms dealer we are just as
careful to whom we sell a firearm to, as the next guy who has a
FFL and sells from any part of the country. We don't want to have
a "black mark" on our record; just as much as the next guy~!:D

We have the "Don't Lie For The Other Guy" signs all along the firearms sales counter. And yep, we
do make copies of all ID's used in conjunction with the 4473 form.

NH and VT sell guns to every felon that asks for em according to Massachusetts last time I checked.

**edit**

That was sarcasm.

Local option prohibition in my home town failed.
Beer was legalized in 1968, followed by legal liquor
stores, then *shudder* alcohol served at restaurants.
If only we had had a national prohibition law, we could
have made the dry laws work.

/sarcasm off/

And yep, we do make copies of all ID's used in conjunction with the 4473 form.

Ala Dan, I have a real problem with that statement - in fact, it would prevent me from ever buying a gun from your store. I routinely refuse anyone and everyone permission to take a copy of my ID. With ID theft as rampant as it is, there's no way I am willing to allow a copy of my ID to be in circulation, outside my control.

Do you encounter a similar attitude from other customers? How has this affected your business - if it has at all?

Sex Toys?

Is it really that easy in SC? Also what were they talking about sex toys being illegal for? Did the kid get killed by one? - this is not a sarcastic remark
