So I go in there to browse around, which btw sucks because prices are outrageous, and I hear this idot behind the counter. Now, there is a time and place for jokes. Some jokes can be told anywhere, some should be reserved for telling in private. Anyway, this guy behind the counter starts telling racist jokes to one of the customers. First one was, "why do black men cry during sex?..... [edit]." At this point I look at the customer and he's taken back. I figure the guy behind the counter is stupid and made a mistake. But instead of stopping there he tells another one. "What do you call a black woman that has 9 abortions?..... [edit]." I look back again and the customer is just blown away, as am I. The clerk behind the counter doesn't even realize. I mean this guy is a real tool.

I'm not bent out of shape about the jokes, honestly I've heard the two before. But man, there is a time and a place. I mean crap, talk about unprofessional.

I won't be going back... based on prices and that idiot. I'm still in awe over the whole thing. I never would have thought. :fire:

Fowlers and Stockade are both jokes.

The personnel there are complete idiots, and usually have an attitude. There is however, one guy I found at stockade that somewhat knows his stuff. Otherwise, dont even waste your time with both shops.

There are better stores around, check out The Gunsight in Fullerton. George is more knowledgeable than all of those buffoons combined.

Like that $900 Colt Government? Haha... :banghead:

Justang, I'm surprised this thread didn't get locked down because you repeated the jokes. Not criticizing, just surprised.

My friend had a sales clerk very much like the one you describe when he bought his gun shop back in 2000. (He "inherited" the employee). This guy would do crude impersonations of various ethnic types, tell racist jokes, etc.

One of the first things he did was to fire the guy. There's no place for attitudes like that, especially when gun owners are already stereotyped.

Some other THR members had recommended Fowlers and The Stockade for my site, so both your comments and Black Majik's are interesting.

Fowler's has always been on the edge of pc IMO, but they'll deal and I've bought several guns from them. Is the Stockade that place in Costa Mesa?

+1! George is a heck of a nice guy; helped me out when I was just a noob.

yeah, I'll edit the post... I just wanted to give you guys an idea of the jokes. But good call.

Is this the same George that owned XCaliber on Beach Blvd.?

My dad has always got decent service from Fowler's, it is a shame to hear that they employ some idiots. I like to go check the used sections at Stockcade and Fower's occaisionally for interesting finds. I haven't found a San Diego Store I like yet, so I usually end up going to Turner's in Orange or down here in San Marcos.

My dad usually has good things to say about the Armory of Orange.

Wow, that's a blast from the past. If that is the store I am thinking of, I was in that shop when I found out about Bush senior and his import ban. I still have one of those funky business cards they had.

Anybody remember B&B? The one that got shut down for selling to gang members?
