Two-Thirds of American Gun Owners Would “Defy” a Federal Gun Ban

It’s safe to say Feinstein, Obama and the rest of the gun control gang face an uphill battle when it comes to limiting any Second Amendment rights. According to a Fox News poll, most Americans—both Republicans and Democrats—would defy any new laws that would take away their guns.

But on to Question 47, addressed to those with a gun in their home: "If the government passed a law to take your guns, would you give up your guns or defy the law and keep your guns?"

The response: 65 percent reported they would "defy the law." That incudes 70 percent of Republicans, 68 percent of conservatives, 52 percent of Democrats and 59 percent of liberals.

The good news is that it probably won’t come to this. Analysis from Bloomberg shows that if a vote were held today, Feinstein’s proposed gun control legislation, which would prohibit the sale or transfer of an estimated 158 “assault weapons,” would fail to pass the Democrat-controlled Senate.

At least six of the 55 senators in the Democratic caucus have expressed skepticism or outright opposition to a ban, the review found. That means Democrats wouldn’t have a 51-vote majority to pass the measure, let alone the 60 needed to break a Republican filibuster to bring it to a floor vote. […]

The five Democratic senators from traditionally pro-gun states who have expressed skepticism about the bill are Max Baucus and Jon Tester of Montana, Mark Begich of Alaska, Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota and Joe Manchin of West Virginia. Independent Senator Angus King of Maine, who caucuses with Democrats, also said he opposes a ban.

Maine Senator Susan Collins, a Republican who supported similar legislation in 2004, has indicated she is unlikely to back the proposed ban in its current form.

The reality, as these and many other lawmakers recognize, is that piling on new laws won’t solve the problem. In fact, The Washington Times’ analysis of recent state laws shows “no discernible correlation between stricter rules and lower gun-crime rates in the states.” It’s time our leaders used reason—not emotion—to guide their legislative endeavors.

Very cool. I'm a little worried about the mags too, but we've made it known that this isn't going down without a fight... hopefully the anti's are a little worried about WHAT KIND of fight.

I don't see any poll results when I click the link. But the results you stated do not surprise me.

All the poll stats are there. Not the kind I wanted to see either! Poll goes against AR's, high cap magizines, and calls for full back ground checks, even on ammo!

I expect we'll hear lots of bold talk on regulations, but not so much action. Background checks are likely to be expanded, but there won't be any gun sales bans and maybe even the magazine capacity limit won't gain much support in congress.

In time, many will see (even Democrats) that additional gun control laws did nothing to decrease the crime rates. I believe crime rate has increased in most metropolitan cities in recent years due to poor economy, unemployment, police cut back, etc.

Criminals/gang members don't care whether the victims are Republican, Democrat, Independent/Libertarian ... they will invade/rob/attack/kill them all the same.

The more law makers push for gun control, more likely they will be voted out at the next election, especially by the ticked off Democratic gun owners.

Funny how the last option to reduce gun violence in public support was arming teachers. The only option that will stop these shootings is the least supported...

That's reassuring, but there are others that tell us that the majority of Americans are ready for Universal Background checks on private firearms sales and that a smaller majority are supportive of magazine capacity restrictions.

We have to continue to work to educate the public on the facts of violent crime rates and firearms/magazine capacity as well as keep our elected officials from passing some additional form of restrictions on gun owners.

I have posted before that gun owners are our worst enemies. There are estimates that as many as 45 million hoseholds have guns. As I recall (I am to lazy to look it up) Obama won the popular vote by 1.3. million. Where were all of those concerned gunowners?

Feinsteins stated goal is a long term plan of 20 years starting with banning manufacture of certain firearms and magazines. It is her hope that with resupply impossible attrition will take its toll and the supply of guns and magazines will disappear. Gun owners have already been maneuvered in New York State with the anti-gunners brilliant 7 round magazine ban and no grandfather clause. They don't have to go after the magazines as attrition will gradually reduce the numbers.

Passive resistance accomplishes nothing. Yet the government has handed us the most powerful weapon in the world...the privilege to vote.

I'm against it all. Background checks are one of the biggest smokescreens being floated. Criminals don't get their guns that way. If I want to transfer a gun to one of my kids or swap pistols with a shooting buddy - Its none of the government's business.

In the end the grabbers will take what they can and wait until the next criminal breaks the law to come after law abiding citizens.

On FOX this morning. Anchors were discussing Assault weapons and the possible ban. The Department of Homeland Security is currently stockpiling "assault rifles" calling them rifles suitable for personal defense.

They are personal defense weapons when the government buys them and evil assault weapons when the citizen's have them.

Its time for the BS is to stop.
