I think the one I have that replaces the grip is from Wilson.
I used to put it on my 70s series Colt, Gold Cup once in a while. I would say it's just as solid as any mount, without having to drill and tap the frame.

I use a B-Square mount on my SA Loaded 1911A1. It uses a screw under the dust cover and in front of the trigger guard. It also has a screw that replaces the slide stop pin. It is solid and I use my pistol in falling plate matches and NRA Bullseye.
The only drawback to it is the need to remove it to fieldstrip for cleaning. You need to re-zero after reassembly.
I have a C-More reddot sight on a weaver rail mounted on it and I like it. I didn't want to drill my frame, so this is what I use.

I have a wilson combat frame mount. It mounts forward of the trigger guard.

I'm not sure I would do that with my next pistol. It makes working with and cleaning the gun a lot harder.

Bill,

That's exactly why Testar77 and I are looking for grip frame style mounts. The Weigand/Clark style seem to be absolutely the most secure with the mounting screws drilled into the dust cover, but we don't want to drill our frames. Nor do we want to remove mounts to clean/field strip the gun. (B-Square). I am keeping my eyes open for a left side mount, while he is looking for a right side mount. The one RH45 has, mounts the scope on it's side, which is wierd, and wouldn't be optimal for our particular red dot's. Neither of us wants to install 'on the slide'.

It appears that Wilson and leupold used to make what we're looking for. Aimtech makes a right-side grip replacement mount. I hear that the Leupold mount interfears with spent case ejections, so I want a left side mount, although that may interfear with the slide stop or safety. I would like to find something like this one:

I can't find anything about the manufacture "NPC".
