lee n. field: I find it difficult to imagine a standard of "modesty" that would allow a female to go about in public with her breasts uncovered. At least in terms of Western civilization. I know of several primitive tribes where that wouldn't be objectionable, but to the best of my knowledge none of them have converted to Christianity.

Depends on your definition of modest, as well as the situation. It is common along beaches in Central/South American and throughout Europe. Some parts of the US too. You wouldn't do it on a street corner, but it's not considered immodest on the beach.

As for Buddhists being violent, it depends on the degree to which the religion is practiced. Some Buddhists won't harm even a fly. Others will harm another in self-defense. Aren't the Gurkhas Buddhist?

Doh. I knew that. I just completely blanked as to which side of the "line" Nepal fell on. Thanks for the reminder.
