What is fair price to pay for a Franchi 48 AL Black Magic 20 ga. 24" barrel , in VGC ?

When was it built?

IIRC I got my 20 gauge 48 AL for about $400 so that's my baseline. Lovely, lovely guns. A dream to carry around the mountains.

I was told it was made in the 70's .

Check on www.gunsinternational.com there is a listing for Franchi shotguns.

$400 would be a very good price for a 20 gauge 48AL!

Franchi dropped the 12 gauge and now make just the 20 & 28 gauges. Very nice guns, a dream to carry.

Then, yeah, $400-500 in good shape, IMO. Others may disagree. But you can get them for that if you keep your eyes open. The 20s go for more than the 12s but I've bought 3 12s over the past few years and haven't paid more than $350 for any of them.

The seller is asking $500 and I have to drive 1 1/2 hours one way to meet him .

Depends how nice it is and how much you want it. Only you can answer that question. :)

I will say that there isn't a new shotgun of that quality anywhere NEAR $500 nowadays.

IMO.

If you check the Franchi web site, the MSRP is $899 to $1199 depending the grade.

Remember the Franchi is a special gun, very light and fast handling. Many that have them just won't part with the gun.

I drove almost three hours to have a new set of stocks fitted to a Ithaca by the factory. Worth every mile. And yes I would drive 1 1/2 hours for a gun I really wanted!

I don't know if I really want it because of the 24" barrel . I offered $450 , but he firm on $500 .

At 5.5 pounds you can carry it all day, and when birds flush it will come up right now.

Mine has the 28 inch barrel, weighs in at almost 6 pounds. Handles great but have considered shortening the barrel and having thin wall choke tubes installed. Right now it is Skeet 1 choke.

Sounds like a ideal partridge gun.
