what is your opinion of the franchi highlander - at least i think highlander is the model... the shotgun i'm considering is a side-by-side in 20 gauge, 26" barrels, in lightly used condition, and priced at $1500.

i'm always looking for a better pheasant whacker, and from outward appearances this one looks to fit the bill. but i've never owned/shot a franchi anything...

thanks for any input.

I do not have much experience with those either, they are part of the Beretta Group of companies. However, for 1190 new, you can get the S&W Elite Gold from CDNN - about 8 at my local gun club bought these - at the time, the choices were 26 or 28, single or double trigger, English or POW grip - most of us grabbed the 28, DT, English version. Someone on another forum mentioned he believed the 28" were all gone, but if you a 26".....worth looking into - these are NOT Huglu, but from the the Turkish factory of UTAS who made these and the $4000 Kimbers. Excellent quality and a lifetime written warranty from S&W.

Another one to look at in the $1500 is the "Uggie", or Ugartechea from Spain - they have one model new at that price point and several others used can be found for that

Both the S&W and Uggie will have fixed chokes, typically IC and M, but if you use DT, you have instant choke selection should the pheasant bust far and then close

Franchis shoot well, I have 2, but I think $1500 is a little steep for a used upland gun. That price seems close to what the gun should cost new.
