Free 1 yr NRA Membership

A "free" NRA membership comes with tons of junk mail and e-mails and pleas for donations of all kinds!!! Their message is always the same old crap. Gun bans are imminent so send us more money so we can cotinue to mis-inform and pay the top guys a rediculous salary.
 
I think this topic will divide the forum into two camps.

The potential for spam mail and constant pleading for funding etc is great.

That is our position. We tend to minimize exposure to such things.

We tend to contact our elected officials in our districts on our own on the really big issues when the meat goes onto the table.
 
This reminds me of years back when AOL gave away free memberships and thousands of hours of on line time. They advertised how many were AOL members. what they didn't say was for every new million members, nine hundred thousand dropped the service after the free period was over.

Will this happen to the NRA? Will the media be able to say how many NRA members dropped out?
 
I support the NRA, and if the work they do requires them to send junk mail as a business need, then so be it. It is what it is.

If they can justify a high salary for the work they do and the responsibilities that come with that position, then so be it. Everyone deserves to earn a living. If it is a demanding job, the pay should be commencerate.
 
I got my NRA membership after a particularly disconcerting dinner with some hippies and vegans at university. I needed to feel "clean" again, so I signed up. And yes I got a load of junkmail asking for money, but a lot of them had an option to merely offer the use of my name as a citizen for a little more weight to the cause which I'm happy to do. And maybe the higher ups are privileged, but someone's got to do the job and it doesn't hurt if they have money and connections.

Plus...free hat. Win.
 
Deckard hit it on the head...THEY WILL ask for money...its a membership based funding system...how do you think they get money...FROM US. All top officers in large companies/organizations make a good chunk of money. That's a fact of life.

You can opt out of receiving advertisement mail, but as Deckard said...the majority of the mail offers the option of no money sent, but allowing NRA to use your name in petitions.

The NRA works...otherwise the news wouldn't say......Congressmen ------ said his party can not afford to tangle with the NRA on the 2nd amendment with so many other hot button issues going on in the country.

Don't get me wrong there are other good groups out there O.F.F & G.O.A, but NRA is by far has the biggest voice and pull in DC.
 
I think & believe the NRA fights for our rights, and it is a very good organization. I'm a life member and have been for +3 decades.

I don't care if I do get some junk mail because of it. What I do receive is valuable info from their site and The American Rifleman mag every month, filled with good articles.

I sent a e-mail tonight to all my freinds and co-workers about the free membership as well.
 
Hey, I paid for a two year membership and I still get a ton of junk from the NRA asking for money all the money.

What's the difference?
 
i've been a member for awhile now. for whatever reason, i don't get much mail, really. i haven't had anything but my american rifleman for several months...possibly a year or more. i honestly can't remember the last piece of junk mail i got. maybe it's because they send me emails, which are paperless and quite easy to delete. i get probably one email a month of special offers: insurance, books, credit cards, whatever.

however, if the possibility of mail is what bothers you, they do have a "no mail" option. you can find instructions on the website to stop all mailing not directly connected to the payment of your membership dues.

if that's the best reason some of y'all have, then it's time to come up with a new rationalization...
 
I get NRA "junk mail" almost daily after signing up for the free membership.

If the title doesn't grab me, there's this brand new thing out now that deals with it - the 'delete' button.

No harm, no foul. It amazes me how put off people are by having to perform a few mouse clicks.

Seriously, what's it take? 2 - 4 seconds?
 
Free membership

I think the free membership is a great Idea. With all the free email accounts available, it would take 5 min of a person's time to set up a nra only email account. I have been a member for over 5 years and will become a life member when I can. With out NRA and organizations like them we probably would not have any rights left at all.

They need our support
 
check with your local gun shops. Many of them are set up to do your NRA registration. Many of them will even pay $10 towards a year's membership fees. Some give a discount of your next purchase. These are the good gun shops. The ones who really care about your rights. Also; if you check in some of the gun type magazines, there's NRA advertisements that offer memberships at deep discounts such as $25 instead of $35; and $70 for 3 years instead of $105. (basically 1 year free).

What's really a good idea that I have done a few times, is to fine friends/family that aren't the most "Gun Friendly". I bought them a 1 year membership in the NRA; sale price was $25; they got a free sports bag (Saying NRA on it); and I also chose them to get the magazine "America's First Freedom". I pay by check; I use MY email; I don't let my friend/family get the spam emails; etc... I do tell them that I ordered it for them. "The 2 times I did it was for christmas". I let them know they won't get any spam. That the billing was on my check. And that they are free to read the magazine or throw it in the garbage; same with the sports bag or hat. Both of them would read the magazine then throw them away. They may not be gun converts and owning/shooting; but I can tell they are definitely more respectful of my rights and the rights of gun owners in general.
 
If you join the NRA, don't forget to send letters to them informing them of the BS politics they are part of. The members are the ones that need to speak out on the games they paly as far as the laws go.

It's a clear fact that they do support gun control, no if's ands or buts... That's why I say more of their members need to speak out against them. There is also GOA.
 
I just joined for strength of numbers. Just delete the occasional email (not much junk email) and that's it. I actually found out from their email that Mark Sanford (Governor of SC) passed a law making it legal for students to have firearms locked away in their vehicles only while on college campuses in SC.
This is particularly a big deal since there are houses that are only accessible through Clemson's campus, and if a student got pulled over with a firearm locked in the trunk, they got thrown in jail (happened a few months ago).
