I have worked up a 12 page treatise on how to carve a stock... in particular a Savage 99 stock (and forearm). This relates to the Savage 99 specifically, but is good for any shotgun/rifle butt stock and forearm. As I said, no charge. Email me at [email protected] and I shall send it to you in pdf format, that you can print out. LBD

I'd like to see a photo of what you are talking about.

Is this like carving a wood plank into a usable stock?

Or carving squirrels, acorns, and unicorns on one that's already a stock??

Emai request sent. Thanks. I have cured a few curved black walnut logs for the past five years. A couple checked pretty deep on the ends but a few are still hanging in there. I painted the ends to slow the differential drying but i really am just experimenting at this point. I burn wood for heat so there is no loss if it doesn't work out.
