Free State Project has 5,000 members!

Actually, we've got at least a hundred more than that by now (5,072 was the official number a couple days ago). In a publicity-oriented move, member #5,000 is none other than well-known author Boston T Party. From the press release:

"It is my pleasure to formally join," says Party, author of "Bulletproof Privacy" and "You and the Police."

"Start packing your bags...We're all gonna be neighbors!"

Boston isn't the first public figure to become involved. Other notables
in the movement include New Hampshire Governor Craig Benson (R) and
syndicated columnist Vin Suprynowicz [and also Claire Wolfe].

Ballots for voting on which state to move to have been mailed to members, and the winning state will be announced on October 1st. Go porcupines!

I was seriously thinking of joining, but all the states were too far away from my family. It is a great idea and I wish it all the success.

Do they have 5000 jobs to go along with those signatures?

Some people will move within weeks or months of finding out which state won. Others won't move for up to five years after that. With the move spread out like that, people shouldn't have any more trouble finding jobs than if they moved anywhere else in the nation. Furthermore, the FSP will be helping to connect in-state members with people moving, so as to help new residents find homes, jobs, and friends.

If Virginia had won a place on the ballot, or Tennessee, that would have more likely put me in there like swimwear. I think this will work and be a very good move.

Like alot of others, i suppose, I have strongly considered moving- but i can't commit to moving at the drop of a hat nor anytime soon. So i didn't sign up. But I do keep an eye on it.

Sure (like any political disorganization; ever been to a Republican caucus?), but how many dysfunctional people are going to be able to organize a move to Alaska? Or survive there? Personally I'm voting for Alaska but I doubt it will win; too many people confuse Alaska with Antarctica

Anyway if FSP comes to Alaska you probably won't notice much difference except a slight increase in gun sales and a slight decrease in taxation.

Yeah, but 20,000 votes in CA won't even counter the UFO cultists. That's why we're trying to find a suitable small state. I expect a lot of help from all the honest socialists out there; obviously, to prove that socialism works they need a control group.

Once they get 20,000 members everyone has five(?) years to move. I believe 20K was estimated to take close to three years so that means anyone has between October when we find out what state, and eight years to go, not that anything happens if you are late.

Once people get there they become activists, and hopefully stay organized. I will try to join if I can, but I may end up helping from my current state. I wish them luck and hope they are taken in with open arms, that will determine their success.

They were expecting to get to 5k in October, so I guess it is getting more popular.
