"Free Wifi" blocking gun searches.

KFC, Taco Bell, Wendy's in my area all have just about any weapon related search blocked. Is it legal for them to advertise free wifi if it is so limited?

Is it LEGAL? Of course. You'll find establishments open to the public which offer free connectivity block a number of things they really don't want folks putting up on their screens for all the other patrons to see.

Many of those filtering programs block guns and weapons along with all the other sorts of controversial content.

They're offering a free service. They aren't contracting with you to be your ISP. IF "truth in advertising" laws could somehow apply, there's nothing that says that service will be completely unlimited.
 
You could also just switch off your device's wifi and stream data from the cell network. You can look at whatever you want.
 
I know they can block.. my question is if they can put signs all over claiming free wifi and not something lile limited wifi...poor cell service is the reason I rely on wifi

I think the old adage," Ya get what you pay for" applies here. If you were paying for it I'd say then you might have room to complain about it...

Not necessarily - free has nothing to do with it - it's their offering and they can restrict or allow anything they want with it.

A not free example is that iPads block their owners from shopping from their Nook application - that's a ebook reader app for those of you who don't know - so I've got a $650 tablet that blocks certain applications from working because they want me to read ebooks from the Apple app instead of a 3-party app. (My Android tablet doesn't block anything that I'm aware of and was half the price of the iPad - go figure.)

It's annoying but that's life. So, if you don't like the wireless that you've been using you're going to have to shop around.
 
Yeah. Never had a problem with Google blocking a gun query but they do store your searches. DuckDuckGo does not store any of your search history and gives comparable results to Google (IMHO). I'm all about my privacy so I go with DuckDuckGo.

You seem to have an issue comprehending gratis versus libre.

The wifi is free (gratis) as in free beer. It is not free (libre) as in free speech.
 
For a short time google was not letting you search any firearm accessories on google shopping.

Google must have changed it's tune? Not all that long ago you could not look up any gun prices on Google. It was in the news as well.

They are anti gun and I no longer use them as a search engine. They also track everything you search for.
 
I wish people would cite cases where google has blocked gun searches.

I don't have any problem doing any gun searches with google.

However, some aspects of internet access and searching may be restricted based on how you are accessing the internet.

For example, I work for a naval shipyard. I can search all kinds of stuff on the computers at work, time and work permitting of course. However some sites are blocked by the network (NMCI - Navy Marine Corps Intranet). Ad based links on search engines are blocked, for example. If I were to click on a Navy Federal Credit Union ad link, then the site would come up as blocked. However, if I click on the Navy Federal Credit Union website itself, I have no problem accessing the website.

Not to mention some websites are specifically blocked for one reason or another, all having to do with the IT protocols set up by NMCI for the DOD.

Regardless...I have no problems with google gun searches either at work or at home.
 
For a few months Google blocked gun related searches on their google shopping search engine.. They allowed it after a gigantic outcry.
