So im building this 300 blk ar upper. After installing what is supposed to be a freefloat handguard, i realized it is touching the gas block. How much is this going to affect accuracy given the fact its not really free floated anymore? Its making a lot of contact between the handguard and block. Should i just tighten the handguard down pretty tight or should i start filing down either the g.b. or handguard? Its a 2 piece guard with 4 screws. Gas block is a lo pro setscrew deal.

Its going to be strictly a brush gun for deer, all shots will be under 50 yards, and will probably have a red dot scope.

you should be fine. your red dot will have a larger MOA than the rifle at 50.
It is odd that you are touching the block. I have never had that happen, and I've installed a couple $25 ebay guards.

Personally, I’d change the block or the handguard to allow proper clearance. If it’a Obvious that you could relieve ~1/8” of block or guard, eh, maybe. Otherwise, I’d swap it around.

If I ever placed a bad shot or a potential “maybe miss, maybe not,” on a game animal, I’d never be able to forgive myself knowing something wasn’t as it should be.

The contact will cause a noticeable difference in accuracy, but will still be accurate enough for your stated purpose. Still I would fix it. It’s an easy fix to just pop on another gas block or clearance the one you have.

if you have something like this

it shouldn't contact the handguard no matter how you tweak or relieve it. I'd check your handguard to make sure it's installed properly. but you should still have adequate accuracy.

if you have another rifle, perform this simple test. shoot a control group on paper at whatever distance you feel comfortable. now rest the barrel of the rifle on a wire and shoot again.
