I've always told my wife the most dangerous criminals are 14 to 17 years old. They THINK nothing will happen to them...at all! So, if I get a gun stuck in my face,( no matter the perps age), I'll consider it threat of murder. Never had it happen so I don't know what I'll do. I just hope I survive!

Actually Hardtarget, the KNOW nothing will happen to them, if they do get caught, they go to Juvi....

And they have no fear, a scared 20 something might shoot you or hit you, or a hardened one will kill you

A teeny bopper will dump a mag for S... and giggles, a scared one will dump a mag to just get away.

richmond is a tuff town

It is a tough town, and getting tougher.

I tell my students all the time that every day is a "what if" situation. The day you don't carry your CCW is likely the day you'll need it. An hour ago, I ran to the grocery store for milk and to return a movie....and had a Glock 23 strapped to my side. I'd never consider leaving the house unarmed. It doesn't matter where you live, its just society these days.

A few years ago, I had a guy pull a knife on me. To be honest, it angered me more than anything, and since he asked for my coat and wallet, I used the coat to bat the knife away, and then I chased him down the street. Looking back, that was probably a pretty stupid thing to do, but I was 21 and fresh out of the military. Now, I have a 4 year old daughter with special needs and it takes my wife-to-be and I about 5 minutes to load and unload her into our van. With that said, I don't take chances. We're usually at Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus on a regular basis, and while it's not "that bad" of an area, leaving the hospital takes you through some questionable areas.

However, our genetics doctor is at Cincinnati Children's Hospital. When my daughter broke her leg (she has a bone deficiency issue related to kidney disease), the hospital in our home town drove her 2 1/2 hours to Cincinnati to be casted. Honestly, the hospital in Cincy is located near one of the most meth-festering areas I've ever been through (aside from parts of Baltimore)

With that said, I wrote the hospital to inform them that I would be carrying each and every time my daughter was treated there, and explained the situation thoroughly. Carrying hasn't been a problem since then. I would rather spend the rest of my life in jail, or even die in a gun battle if it meant my daughter and wife were able to escape. My concealed carry permit has definitely been the best investment that I have ever made.

Richmond? Isn't that becoming the Baltimore City of central Virginia? My heads on a swivel no matter where I am. There are too many unknowns that exist naturally to just assume safety. I hope yall find the shooter and catch him with his pants down.

No place is safe anymore. Bad guys don't go to poor neighborhoods, they go where there is 'good' stuff so to speak, so the safe neighborhoods are the ones being targeted just because they know that safety there is taken so lightly. (it's assumed because of the 150k - 300k houses there are built there)

I work at a government installation where I can't even have one in my car so my drive to and from work keeps me constantly on the lookout for strange/weird things. Mind you the installation is not in the greatest of neighborhoods either. (shootings pretty much outside of the gates of the installation) so for those of you who can carry but don't because of that 'safe' feeling, please re-evaluate your thought process.
