This is a $140,000 machine called an abrasive waterjet. It uses 50,000psi and mixes an 80grit abrasive (sand like substance) called garnet to cut the metal. This process does not heat up the metal and cause a change in the properties of the metal like plasma and laser. Makes for a much stronger target especially on the edges.
Cuts very easily. Its not as fast as plasma or laser but it is by far more accurate, no post processes required, the cuts are crisp without any dross or slag like plasma, also has no HAZ or heat affected zone on the edges which weakens the material and causes issues when welding.
Its a really awesome technology thats been around for a very long time!
Hey all.
I joined this forum around 2010 as I was selling my 50 years of collecting guns. I sold my guns due to health and financial reasons. and have not been on line here since that period.
Well , you know that life is what happens while your making other plans....... and thanks to the miracles of modern medicine. I'm still here and in damn good shape and I want to get back into shooting.
My present thinking that cowboy shooting seems to be something I can do and the targets are BIG and it looks like fun and I want to try it.
so now I am learning the nomenclature and being sorry I sold my Ruger single six ( the first gun I ever bought).
My plan is to get to Jackson NJ when the weather gets warmer and meet the SASS club shooters there, as there is nothing available here in South jersey that I can find. so I'll be lurking for a while and learning a lot
have a Happy valentines day
joe
silvercat, this machine runs 16-20 hours a day, each sheet takes 6 hours to cut 32 complete targets. Its looking like we will retail these for $45 plus shipping, they are big guys...not small and out of 3/8".
PrecisionTargets what you guys are doing is really cool, and it's even cooler that your here to talk to us about it. You'll have much more success moving your product on gun forums like this and what not so nice job. But I got to ask what made you switch to gun accessories, kind of a risky jump into a somewhat competitive field.
We are a full service machine shop. We just purchased the waterjet and decided to jump into the target market since we own everything outright and have low overhead we can provide a super high quality product for a very good price.
New welder arrived yesterday. All of our targets will be welded not with MIG process but spray transfer. I will have weld quality pictures up fairly soon.
lets see some pictures.... we are working with a local gunshop in a unique partnership to start selling uppers and lowers with a pretty slick design also. Lots of cool stuff in the works
Hmmmm.....Looks like I can finally get some targets that I can leave on the land and not have to keep putting up posts and such. Nothing like the sound of hearing a "ding" on a shot down range.
