I have been saving this thread for veterans day. My grandfather served in WWII and Korea. His health is failing so they recently sold many of their belongings to down size their home. The photo attached shows some of the items that made their way to me. None of the items shown have much commercial value but are not for sale anyway.
As a boy during the Depression, he owned firearms for hunting but did not use them later in life. He was best known for fishing and as a boy he used to take me fishing and use the fly reel shown here. I managed to snag three of only a few knives he owned. The one that means the most to me is the small case 3-blade. He refused to throw away anything that still had value. He carried this knife in his pocket for decades, as evidenced by the shape of the blades. I think of his resourcefulness whenever I see it, but ironically it will now become a safe queen and likely never be used again. He would say I am "wasting" it to preserve a "don't waste" character. The other two knives were in an old tackle box and he probably found them at the lake.
