Dear Friends,

This account is brand new but I am a frequent visitor to this Forum. I appreciate a great support Oleg receives from the fellow members. I am sure you'll miss him during his trip to Europe -- as we (his parents) will.

My wife and I are planning a week-long trip to FL Keys and Miami Beach areas. MN permits are not valid in FL, as per http://licgweb.doacs.state.fl.us/news/concealed_carry.html. I suspect, it's a reaction to MN not including FL in its first reciprocity list. Does it sound reasonable?

Earlier today, Oleg posted some questions in Roundtable forum http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=116381 to assist us in preparation to our trip. If you have a minute please read that thread. I am going to post there too.

All the best,
Ted

You did good. Your son is a beacon for the rest of us to follow. Fine example of an American. AND he puts up with us buttheads :)

Good on ya.

Cheers,
James

Can't do that. Florida has a "you must be a resident of the state you are licensed" clause to it's reciprocity law. If he follows your advice, he's at risk of being popped for a FELONY charge. Plus, Arizona will not allow you to get a permit without getting training within the state of Arizona.

Ted, go here to http://licgweb.doacs.state.fl.us/license/forms.html. Florida is currently running about 45 days on applications. Ask for a class w license form, along with a set of a few extra fingerprint cards.

You can get a non resident FL permit via the US Mail. Then you would be legal. Packing.org might have the info. I know that GA also recgonizes the non-res. FL permit. I thought about going that route since GA won't recg. SC's permits.

Thanks for raising such a fine son, Mr. Volk.

I'll second the recommendation for a FL non-resident permit. Cost is $117. You didn't mention when your trip is going to be, but it takes 45-90 days after mailing in the application before you get your permit.

It's good in 23 states, more than any other states' permits.

Now if we can just get Oleg fixed up with some nice girl...

Remember, it _is_ your parental duty to hound him about it at any opportunity. You _do_ want grandchildren, right? Imagine all the tiny Olegs running about, cameras in one hand, machineguns in the other...

I'd follow the state laws regarding transport, but I'd have the key/combination ready, and a loaded magazine handy. Load it in the motel room. I _don't_ like motel security.

Thank you for the nice words. A good share of the credit for what turned out to be well done goes to my wife.

A thread in Roundtable reveals more details about our trip. We fly out that starts this Thursday and will try to stay safe.

bogie, your idea is very timely. I assume you are talking not about just "nice girls" -- we saw a few in past -- but about those who are capable of becoming Oleg's lifetime partner. A caring insider could easily mobilize THR networking resources to greatly exceed what I could possibly do as "parental duty".

Check Out Packing.org for Info and Lawyer

Dear Ted, Go to www.packing.org and check out the Florida page it will have a list of state reciprocity. I am not contradicting anything anyone else has said but it may have some more nuances that could be of use. Also check out the News for Florida (right hand tool links) and the ads, there may well be a good lawyer you could talk to. The other option is just call the Florida State Police and ask; other SP agencies have sent me letters for similar queries. Peace and Health in the New Year!
