I've seen online photos of various types of open top colts with a rear sight that is dovetailed into the barrel. If anyone has an example of one they have installed or have installed, I'd appreciate a photo, and a little feedback on the end result.

Dixie used to carry it. Haven't dealt with them for decades but it was in their catalog in the last century.

I think some of the original Colt 1860 Armies had a rear sight, or was it a dragoon, for use with the shoulder stock.

That right there would make a f i n e little game getter methinks.

ASM use to offer some great stuff. All sorts of different barrel lengths for their Colt Pocket revolvers, built with the right frame size just like Uberti does currently. Their dragoons with adjustable sights, their 1860 Army with the half fluted rebated cylinder, the list goes on and on, I was sorry to see them go.

I believe F.LLI PIETTA still offers this version of the Colt 1860 Army.

Awhile back I saw an Uberti 1862 on gunbroker with a 5" barrel that someone had dovetailed a small hooded (I think they are called 'creedmore' style?) front sight to and either dovetailed or welded a buckhorn adjustable rear. Left hardly any room on the barrel itself BUT it also gave it a VERY cool steampunkishy look... And YES, thats a word... It might be one that I just now made up, but still that doesnt mean its not LOL

Seriously though, except for being a bit crowded on THAT barrel, I really dug the way it looked and I suspect it would be a great setup for longer barrels that need tack driving accuracy... Id like to make something like that one day..
