I have a Winchester Legacy and want to change the front site to a gold bead sight. Is the Dovetail cut 3/8 or is it different? I know what kind of sight I want but not sure what the dovetail cut and not sure the height I should go with. The current sight is .410 or so top to bottom and I know that the new sight may need to be taller just in case of problems, but not sure.

Thanks for the help

I thought the Legacy came with a Gold Bead front sight?

Regardless, I can't say for sure what Winchester may or might have done on the Legacy series.
But in all likelihood, it is a standard dovetail.

If you are going to replace it, why not just take it out now and measure it?
And if the sight settings are satisfactory now, get a new one the same height.

It is also important to measure the width of the sight. They are made in several different width's, and you will want one the same as the old one to prevent over-hang on each side of the barrel.

A new sight may very likely be slightly over-size for the dove-tail and need fitting.
If it is, be sure and file down the sight dovetail slightly, not the barrel dovetail!
