Thanks for all the replies! Right now the G48 and P225-A1 are top contenders.
A 96 Brigadier was my first ever pistol a looonng time ago. Actually thicker than the standard 92/96. I think you are thinking of a different Beretta model. I don't think they make a single stack 92 anymore.
As for the commander size 9mm 1911 etc, I have a Springfield EMP with the short barrel. I've thought of moving to the longer barrel, but the weight is a lot more than I would like. The G48 with a 4.2" barrel is listed as 20 ounces while the EMP Champion with the 4" barrel is 31 ounces.
Now the Sig P225-A1 is lighter than the G48 but also has a barrel that is 1" shorter. Looks like it's going to be the G48 for the win.
The Sig is likely going to be difficult to find as they are out of production and awesome. I really liked my 48.
