hi I was was wondering if I could get a tax stamp and only buy the automatic lower receiver of an AR-15. I already have an AR, and since the lower has the sear which makes it auto or semi-auto could I use the upper I already have on the class 3 lower, legally?

does anyone sell a full auto lower alone?

thanks for the help

Yes, since the lower is the registered part. However, since new manufacture is banned, you're going to be paying market price. $16,000 to $20,000 is a nice estimate. At that price, the seller would probably throw in an upper for free.

But you're free to swap out any upper you want.

You could also buy a registered DIAS (drop in auto sear) and use your standard AR lower, but you would still need a FA bolt carrier and a select fire trigger group. You can even move the DIAS between any other AR you might have with no problem. The only downside is that the DIAS is still going to cost about as much as the registered receiver, and it won't be as durable (you can't replace any part of it, while with a RR you can replace any part except the receiver itself).

Maybe, there are a lot of lowers out there that will not accept a DIAS or Lighting link without modification.

Short answer: yes. I have a Colt XM16A1 and I switch out my 5.56 upper with a Lakeside upper in .22LR with the belt feed. Cooler than heck when I can find .22LR ammo.
