Very nice.
You wanted the match trigger, even if you didn't know it yet. :p
The sling is great. It basically looks right, just needs the keepers pushed together. Pick up a copy of Jim Owen's Leather Slings and Shooting Positions

It's a "faux" selector and is available on the Fulton site in the parts section for $49.95

And they charge another $50 or so when you order a rifle to have the cutout in the stock, so it's about a hundred dollars for nothing.

I guess if you were building a historical replica it would be cool.

As it is the thing just gets in the way.

You'll probably want that 10rd mag for bench shooting and most states have laws about hunting with high capacity mags.

I was told that it was, I may try that sometime but there are not many matches around here.

No external modifications are allowed under Service Rifle rules (a shortened barrel would be an external mod). You can still shoot it in 95% of the matches out there.

Fortunately, Texas isn't one of 'em (at least not for game and non-game hunting - they do get pissy about scattergun capacity when huntin' birds).

Nice rifle!!

I run my sling as shown in the Turner link. (Shoot an AR-15 in Service Rifle.) A good ol' cotton GI M-1 sling works well also. Don't bother with the nylon versions though, as they're awful IMO. Slick and won't hold for anything. Of course, I'm young, fit and lithe, so pulse bounce is a non-issue for me, even in sitting! :neener:

Seeing these nice pictures of the big rifles makes me really, really want an M-1 Garand to keep my AR company. And I was all set to get a .45-70 Encore barrel too!!

Enjoy that rifle TSM, it should serve you well for many uses. Hope it shoots as good as it looks! And how cold does it have to get to keep a Texan from the range? (Gotta ask; it was about 30 yesterday when my bud and I were out blasting for a couple of hours. ;) )

Oh, and if you showed up around here with a short M-14, we'd probably let you run it anyway, though some of the clubs might be pickier.
