Spent this afternoon with my M39 running through 40 rounds of Hungarian steel core heavy ball, and 20 rounds of Hotshot 180gr softpoint.

Shot a couple of 5 shot groups at 200yards with the Hungarian, both landed in the 4" range.

Shot the Hotshot at 100 and it put 5 into a 5 to 6" group.

Rang the gong alot and then kicked it up a notch.

Iron sights out to 300 yards. Had an excellent 4 1/2" group in the making at that range, but one of my 5 went low and ruined it. But I'm gonna post the pics anyway bacause the other 4 look so good! ...Atleast they do to me. :D

Technically, it's more than likely a Ruskie that the Finns captured and, um, Finn-ized. So, it's a modified Ruskie but a Ruskie nonetheless ;)

The receiver and bolt are the only things Russkie about an M39. The stock, sights, trigger and barrel are all Finn, and actually, some of the barrels are Belgian. Let's just compromise and call them Fusskies. Whatever we call them, they sure are good shooters!

Nice group at 300 yards. That's not bad at all, especially with surplus ammo and a surplus rifle.

Have you tried some Czech Silvertip in that M39? I'll bet your Finn would shoot Yugo heavy ball really well too if you ever come across some.

I have an M39 with a Swiss barrel (SIG) and a mark on the buttplate indicating Remington, I believe. The receiver is Russian though, 1897.
It's a good shooter too.

Thank you guys for the praise on my group(s). It's very satisfying to get this kind of performance from such an old warhorse.

This M39, like all others, is a Heinz57. Matching 1897 Izhevsk receiver, bolt, and mag floorplate. 1942 Sako everything else. Floated barrel, no shims under the receiver. It's got pitting in spots and the blue isn't the best, but it will shoot like a champ.

Makes me want another. :D
