I was always interested in that rifle that Al Pacino had during the climatic bank heist scene in the movie Heat. Turns out it's a FL FNC

is that rifle just a 5.56 "version" of the FAL?

The 5.56x45mm version of the FAL was the FN CAL.

The FN FNC is a different beast.

I think this one's been done before, but my favorite was the IMI Galil used in the big final shootout,and rarely seen in any movie.

FAL = short stroke, tilting bolt
FNC = long stroke, rotating bolt
