With all the function/non-function reports on the Sig P238, I finally got to the range with mine. Not really giving a range report as far as accuracy, that's never been an issue with these guns.

I really did not know what to expect. So, I carried several different brands of ammo.

First I fired Federal Hyda Shok 95gr. because that is what I intend on carrying loaded in the gun. Fired two mags of 6rds +1 in the pipe. Operated without a hiccup. I am :D

Next, fired two mags of Winchester JHP PDX, 6rds +1 in the pipe. Operated without a hiccup. I am :D

Next, fired two mags of Hornady Critical Defense JHP, 6rds +1 in the pipe. Operated without a hiccup. I am :D

So then tried some ball. Fired 50 rds of Aquila FMJ...out of the 50 I had a stove pipe every single mag of 7.

I would have thought it would be the JHP that would be the problem, but no, its the ball.

So, what do you think...should I send it back to Sig for check up or just fire the JHP that I intend to fire anyway?

As for the gun it's self...what a joy that little bugger is to fire.:p

I would not make any assumptions of a gun problem based on one box of Mexican ammo.

Try some other brands of U.S. made ball ammo and see it they work first before you get your panties in a wad and send it back..

Much like Magtech, Aguila ammunition is typically considered acceptable ammunition by most I know.
However, I absolutely agree with RC in that you should try a few other brands of FMJ before you consider sending it in to address the issue.

This reminds me of the time when I sent in my K9 to Kahr for warranty repair in '97 as it wouldn't feed and/or extract FMJ. I was requested to send in a few spent casings with the pistol. Kahr Arms went through the motions by polishing the feed ramp, gauging the bore and checking all specs. I received a note with my "repaired" K9 that politely asked me not to fire "garbage" ammunition through the K9 as it has tight tolerances.

It turns out this particular type of FMJ I was using was manufactured by American Ammunition, the same manufacture that soon after developed a rather lackluster reputation. Measuring some remaining rounds later showed that these rounds had not been resized.

Well, if it was good enough for Santa Anna at the Alamo...it should be good enough for Sig:D

You're right....need to get some good ole USA stuff and run through it.

curious - did you (after the stove pipes) go back and try the jhp to see if they were now affected?

Mine always ran fine with ball. I haven't found a hollowpoint it consistently works 100 pct of the time with yet.

mine was hiccuping more often with std factory ammo / tried a wolff extra power spring and it now feeds everything -

Stay away from .380 +p or you'll be buying another recoil spring.

P238 and Ruger LCP both with lasers.

Mine isn't much for accuracy, but with a 7.3 lb trigger that's understandable. Then again neither are my Colt mustang nor government model .380, I think to function reliably with such short locked breech guns accuracy is secondary. My S&W PPK/S makes all three look lousy by comparison, but the PPK/S is known for accuracy. I'd rather shoot my Colt Gov't .380, funner to shoot than any other small .380, but for hitting the bull the PPK/S is best, though even with the extended "tail" it bites me.
