Funky Things Folks Do

I've admired those fellows who can rack the slide (after ejecting the magazine) with enough vigor that they snatch the flying round out of the air before showing clear at a match.

I've always done this. Never thought anything about it. Not trying to show off, I don't shoot matches. I'm usually at the range alone so I'm not trying to impress anyone, it just seems the easiest way to do it.

He has a followup video somewhere, where he states that the springs are stock and then demonstrates it on multiple different guns...he doesn't do a sub-compact like the G26.

It isn't so much a matter of a lightened spring, but the ability to fully stop the rearward motion of the elbow to allow the inertia of the slide to continue to the rear

Thats Nuts! bet he cant do it with my sr9. I can barely do it w 2 hands and i bench 550 lbs.

Actually, i think i bench 160 :)

Guys who put their hand over the ejection port to catch the round as they eject on "Unload and show clear".
Personally I would rather bend over to pick it up and not risk the extractor smacking the primer....
heh, my dogs have eaten a few 9mm and 380 rounds.. but i still let em fall.. im too old to snatch in the air.. and they never ever land where i want them too..

Sam1911 describes it better than I do. I've done the show off rack it and catch it multiple times myself. Cupping the ejection port is the bad move.
Also guys who do the show off extraction and let the slide run forward are mildly annoying, I make them show clear again so I can see the chamber is empty.
The rack the slide to chamber a round by punching the gun? Did that too when those vids first came out. Had some strange twangs in my shoulder afterwards, so I'm not going to repeat it.

Carrying a fake gun,,,

I have an acquaintance who carries a fake gun,,,
It's an airsoft replica of a Walther PPK.

Now bear in mind that he has an Oklahoma issued carry permit,,,
He's an avid target shooter and owns several nice guns.

But he carries the fake because he says,,,
"I couldn't really shoot anyone but I can scare them off."

I just shake my head in disbelief,,,
But hey, who am I to tell him that he's wrong.

Carrying concealed with it pointing at your junk.

Admittedly it might just be psychological but it ain't happening in my drawers.

Carrying a fake? Why not just carry a real one unloaded? Same difference, right?

Or how about carrying pepper spray so you have something that might actually work.

I have a hard time with people like my Dad who has a handgun, has a carry permit, but never practices. IMO that makes him a hazzard more than anything.

People who seem to think that carrying a gun will keep them safe just by way of having it on their person.

People who carry FMJs in their carry gun in a populated area because they are too cheap to buy HPs. Have you ever heard of over penetration or collateral damage?

People who keep FMJs in their HD gun and have a family. Again, have you ever heard of over penetration or collateral damage? Not saying HPs prevent this, but it MAY help and is a prudent decission.

People who insist on carrying FMJs in a 1911 because "It worked in both World Wars, so it's good enough for me!" The second WW ended in 1945......... there have been a few advances in ammo tech. And AGAIN, have you ever heard of over penetration or collateral damage? I think people who ignore proper ammo choice are missing half of the point of equipment selection. It does matter.

People who leave a chamber empty on a modern DA/SA revolver with a transfer bar.....

People who say "I need to get my wife/husband/significant other to shoot that gun more, because they need practice." But that person sucks behind the trigger because they themselves have spent no time practicing. It makes no sense, and is just foolish bravado. We all need to practice....... everyone.

^^^^

Or cramming 5 minutes of useful information into a 30 minute video....

Guys who have 50 guns but insist that they are all for self defense and all just "tools".

Guys who deny they have a bunch of guns just for the fun of it.

Guys who deny they like shooting and shoot as much as they do cuz it's a hobby, it's fun, and they like it.

Guys who insist the main reason for owning guns is self defense then they show you their collection of black powder flintlocks.

I've got a friend who's a fairly good CAS shooter, except that he doesn't keep any objective records of what works and what doesn't. He's got an almost superstitious mindset about technique and equipment. If he tries something once, no matter how sensible, but it doesn't work, (say, because he hasn't practiced it) he'll never do it again. Likewise, if he tries smething, no matter how funky, and it does happen to work, he'll keep on with it, whether it ever works again or not, because he remembers that one time it did.

"I open carry because it's a quicker draw, I also don't carry with one in the chamber because I can just rack the slide on my draw."

I've got nothing against OC, but his logic just makes me :banghead::banghead::banghead:

Oh. I have another one.

Carrying special bear loads in a 1911! (Be sure to save the last round for your self! It beats the hell out of getting mauled to death by a bear.)
