This is one of those recommendations that is almost obsolete. You would have to look hard to find a steel sizing die for a straight wall pistol cartridge.

I happen to agree, but how do you know? HS6 is the only powder I have shot that would foul the gun to the point of malfunction in one session.

I heard steel dies were making a bit of a come back as some people are looking to manufacture 9mm ammo that doesn't look so much like reloads.

I consistently read stuff like what you said. But fouling to the point where it won't cycle in one shooting range trip is I think the worst I have heard of so far.
I have been using HS6 for at least 15 years in shot shells, 357 and 44mag. It's a little dirty in shot guns but not even close to the worst.
When I started reloading for 9mm about 5 years ago I searched around and quickly found HS6 to be a strong do not use for 9mm. I might try some ridiculous 90gr +P and then some 9mm rounds.

Carpenter, hand loader What CAN'T you do???

Thanks, but there are a lot of things that I can’t do. I just need to plan ahead and get to work. This new generation are used to get things instead of the satisfaction of building something for yourself. Plus having my son watch me doing it send a message to him that he can build things as well :);)

If you have not bought 9mm dies get set with a carbide sizing die. Tool steel pistol dies suck.

I don't think it's obsolete. There are still plenty of steel straight wall pistol cartridges floating around in the used market. I just shipped a set to another forum member, after I pointed out they were steel and not carbide.

I am not trying to hijack the thread but I don't want to start a new one.

I am wondering if I can use my Dillon deprime and resize die in the Lee APP and achieve the same results I would if I was doing the same process on the 750? I want to use the dillon decap and resize die, then put them in the F.A.R.T chamber for final cleaning. Then to the 750 for final assembly. I know its extra steps but so far I have enjoyed the process.

Personally, I would not try resizing on the APP using the Xpress shell holders. You can use a regular shell holder, but that negates the advantage of case feeding on the APP - you will have to insert every case into the shell holder by hand. The Xpress shell holder simply does not have enough purchase on the rim to be able to extract a sticky case, IMHO.

Brass rod. It is too easy to find yourself with a barrel or a die packed with splintered wood. hahaha
With the one squibb I've had, yes I splintered a wood dowell trying to get it out, got the wood out of the barrel at least :) Brass did work
