Ok, you guys did a great job with my question about scopes and mounts. So now I'm asking about swapping out my factory installed trigger in my Romy for a G2 trigger. Is there a great deal of difference between the single and double hook triggers as far as function? Why would I choose 1 over the other?

Thanks

The difference is all in your mind.

The Russian used double hooks on the AK-47 for redundancy and went to single hooks on the AKM when they found out the hooks never broke.

Some folks swear the double hook gets you a smoother trigger, due to balanced friction.

Some folks swear the single hook gets you a smoother trigger, due to less friction.

Tapco isn't the only game in town, I've used the trigger groups referenced in the post below, and am quite pleased with them.

Single or double hook, either Tapco G2 trigger is way better than stock. I agree the single hook on my converted Saiga is almost too light.

Look at your receiver cuts if its only got the single lobe you need the single hook trigger, if its got the two ears cut you can use either. I tend to match the original when I swap. If double hook cut receiver I use a double hook trigger.

. . . but don't let that limit you. A second slot can be made with a small file or a dremel in a couple of minutes.

I've got one set up with a double hook, the rest are all singles. I can't tell any difference at the range. I only keep single hooks in the shop now.

The Tapco G2 trigger group is a nice upgrade to the stock trigger. I would not fret over the single v double design, unless your rifle calls for a double.

I have a friend who has shot his fair share of AKs, and he was fiddling with my SAR-1 one day and said, "You know, this is the best trigger I've ever felt on an AK. It's not stock, is it?" It wasn't...it was a Tapco G2 single hook.

Good stuff. I'm a fan of the double-hook, for the redundancy, but after looking at it I really can't reasonably imagine there would be a time one of them breaks.

And you don't need a two-lobe cut in the receiver to use a double. My Saiga came with one, and I decided it was easier to grind part of the trigger than cut the receiver. Works great.

its much easier to just use a single hook i feel.

i bought the double hook line ( and sinker?) and did a build with it. when i built my next rifle. i said screw it and used a single hook rather than cut away the receiver or mill down the trigger.

G2's are a great upgrade over a "Century" set.
They can be "smoothed" up rather nice also.
Most of my AK's have G2's,but don't forget about a
RedStar group!! ;)

Red Star

Pricey, but a very nice adjustable 2 stage trigger.

Those three parts, the Tapco grip, a now a Tapco gas rod, and I can shoot my foreign mags in it and not just my Tapco (USA) one.
