The AR has USGI mags that are pretty much guaranteed to be reliable, and aftermarket mags are generally not completely reliable. I was wondering if there's a wide discrepency between G3 mags. I see G3 mags going for $3 and $4 and I have no idea if that's normal or if they're junk.

Also, are G3 mags and Cetme mags interchangeable? If they are, are the 100% compatible, or is there some slight compromise?

I tried using the search function and it doesn't accept G3 as a term since it's not 3 letters or more. Thanks.

I`ve been told CETME mags will fit a G-3 but G-3 mags don`t necessarily fit CETMEs. However since the Century G-3 and CETMEs use the same recievers I dunno if that`s so with them. My CETME works better with G-3 mags than the originals. I bought a bunch of those CTD $3 aluminum G-3 mags. They all have very light finish wear (some looked darn near new) and every one of them has been 100% reliable for me. I`ve been meaning to get some steel G-3 mags to try also. I also have some crappy looking USA type 30rd. mags. CTD had them on sale for $10ea. They look like big M-14 mags with a G-3 adapters welded on top. I wouldn`t trust them for serious stuff but at the range the cheap looking things have been 100% reliable also. Marcus

Portugal, Spain, Germany, and others are switching to 5.56NATO weapons, so all of their G3 mags have hit the surplus market. That's why they're so cheap. Most of the ones I have are aluminium, made by FMP(Portugal), and work as well as the steel HK-91 mags I have.

Some people prefer the steel G3 mags, but they're almost as heavy empty as the aluminium ones loaded.

A G3 can accept CETME mags. A real, made in Santa Barbara, CETME model C may not accept G3 mags, but most of the US-made receivers were originally designed to assembly G3s, then converted to assemble CETMEs, so G3 mags usually fit.
