Quick and easy question for those familiar with the G34 / G35 pistol:

Do you see the top opening on the slide as a possible entry point for dirt, grime, sand, garbage, etc., that could cause the gun to choke?

I already have a G34, but am thinking about picking up a G17 for extended woods carry.

nope... dropped mine in mud (35) and didnt clean it off all caked up and still worked fine... felt a little gritty when i racked the action but no problems

Well, when you ask if it's a possible entry point for stuff, I don't think there's much doubt that it is, but I've never heard any reports of that being an actual problem. I would guess that due to the position of the opening that the only way you'd get a problem is by packing it so full of dirt that it interfered with slide travel enough that you'd get ejection problems.

I love the G34 but I don't have a CCW so I've never even seen a speck of pocket lint in there.

There are many people (I think M. Ayoob being one of them) who think the G34/G35 are great carry weapons, and I've never heard any complaints about it being any kind of a problem.

If you are really, really worried about it, a strip of '100 mile an hour' tape over the port will eliminate all concern.
