The G36 was the first full auto gun I ever shot. I loved the feel of it, the sighting, and the ambi charging handle. I can't remember if they accept ar15 mags, if they do, it takes an after market part. That part I don't like (because H&K won't just give them away).

A friend of mine has an SL8 that he has put a lot of money into making "just like a G36".

It has the carry handle, the folding stock, pistol grip, and takes the cool transparent hi-cap mags; the grey polymer has even been dyed black.

It's fun to shoot... but its not really any more effective than a normal AR - its just for show. Ergos are a bit better, but its also a bit bulkier.

Years ago I had one I did the same thing too, had about $2400 in it ... including the Special Weapons AR mag conversion ... all that and it still had a crappy trigger, but if I took my time it would shoot sub-moa.

It was a fun toy but as mentioned it wouldn't do anything an AR wouldn't do for 1/3 the price.

I did a USC to UMP conversion and was really happy with it. I've been toying with the idea of doing a SL8 to G36 conversion as well. I think it is a cool looking rifle and would be a fun toy to play with.

I've spend lots of time behind a full auto version with the built in optic and bipod. It's fun, like any full auto. I also like the charging handle setup.

Pretty accurate.

I'd rather go AR.

(Well, I'd rather go away from 5.56, but that's another story....)

To each his own, but I wouldn't buy one. If you donated one, I'd do my best to wear it out.

I don't care for folding stocks. I get use out of telescopic stocks. I shoot outdoors, so the telescopic sights server a purpose since I wear heavier clothes in winter. Also, telescopic sights make it easier for my kids to get a cheek-weld on an adult sized rifle.

My disposable income is limited these days. For that kind of money I can have an AR, several accessories, an AK, a pile of mags for each and some bulk ammo for each. I would be much happier going that route.

I love the G36

What's better than 6+1 of .45 ACP :neener:

but in all seriousness I would rather have an AR in my hands

I'll say this first, I love HK products, and own a few.

But unless HK sells one, factory built, then I'll pass.

LE price on these is about $1500.

I, along with others would gladly pay this for a factory, 922 compliant, semi version.

Just can't justify $3000+ for a version someone, even a very skilled someone, has cut and welded and glued back together.

Better guns for less money, ala SCAR or ACR, or a quality high end AR.

YMMV.
