Teacher accused of ordering student thrown from window

COVINGTON, Ga. (AP) — A teacher at a Newton County school has resigned after officials say she admitted she told two students to throw a 14-year-old girl from a classroom window.
The teacher, a 63-year-old Conyers resident, was not immediately arrested after the Monday incident, which took place at Sharp Learning Center. But the Newton County Sheriff's Office is investigating.

The student, whose name was not released, was taken to Newton General Hospital on Tuesday night for neck pains and cuts to her body, said Newton County Sheriff's Office investigator Marty Roberts.

According to an incident report by resource officer Brian Chiappetta, the incident took place in the morning during second period. The students were in class when the teacher took a photograph of some of the students, the report said. When the girl asked why the teacher had taken her picture, the teacher allegedly responded with a disparaging remark about the girl's appearance.

The girl became upset and began to use profanity and hit the office assist button on the classroom wall, the incident report said. The teacher then allegedly told two 14-year-old boys to pick up the girl and throw her out the window.

The two boys later told principal Kenneth Daniels that they threw the girl out the window because they did not want to be written up for disobeying a teacher.

The teacher resigned Wednesday, Roberts said.

Roberts said he has been told that the school board will leave it up to the girl's parents to pursue criminal charges against the teacher. But he said his investigation is ongoing.

"I've had incidents involving schools, but I've never heard of such a thing where the teacher instructs students like this," Roberts said.

And people still want there kids in public schools?:scrutiny:

Hey, there's a bad apple in that group... LET'S BAN THEM ALTOGETHER! Don't have anything to do with schools! If you see one, run away! We all know that if there are any members of a particular group who aren't stable and who cause harm then the entire group should be judged according to the actions of the minority.
Sound familiar?

Maybe the district needs to form a committee to create a written defenestration policy?

Our youth are being brainwashed to the point where too many will do ANYTHING a teacher tells them to. In my day (gee, I sound like my grandfather) as students, we respected the authority of a teacher - but we knew the authority wasn't infinite. When some teacher or administrator made demands that we KNEW were out of bounds, we simply followed what could best be termed a path of nonviolent noncompliance.
...the school board will leave it up to the girl's parents to pursue criminal charges against the teacher.
WHERE THE :cuss: IS THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY???

[jackass kid voice/] ummm, the teacher said that we had to throw her out the window, so I figured it was okay. I mean, you don't expect ME to get in trouble, do ya???[jackass kid voice]

Obviously, history class failed to mention Nuremburg, and the outcomes thereof.:( If any techer had ordered us to toss a fellow student out a window, we would have proably restrained the teacher until LE arrival.

ALLRIGHT!!!! Give me a few ten thousands more like her! I love it!

We need some more like this B_tch by G_d we'd be finally getting some passing grades or out the window they go! I hope this wasn't some lame 1st story 3 feet off the window BS . I mean I hope she bounced a few time:D

I just love the drone comments. Hmmm not to many parents here? Children should listen to authoritery"butched that" figures. One of the biggest problems in schools today is teachers can't disipline students. Now here in Indian by gosh if a kid goes whacko they call the principle down & he or she gets a paddle on the buttocks. Boy I could have used that when I was in school:D

Well, the problem seems to be (IMHO,YMMV) that teachers were no longer allowed to discipline students. That went on for too long, and now we have "zero tolerance" policies. So the "good kids" are afraid of rocking the boat, and they become "drones". Meanwhile, the "Bad kids" ignore all the new rules, and business continues as usual.
Hmm. Am I the only one who sees the parallel with gun control and sheeple/criminals?

Well we have zero tolerance because parents can't even disipline their children without getting a call from social services or the police.

Agreed, but also, because many parents refuse to. There are many things you can do to discipline children. Here in CA, (amazingly!) You can physically discipline your child as long as no lasting marks result. Some people seem to feel that if you can't knock your kids around with a fist, it isn't discipline, and therefore, "why bother?".
Personally, I was strapped with a heavy leather belt almost every day, and had many wooden spoons busted on my a$$. It did no good, because my parents failed to instill respect. They chose to rule by fear. Which does work, right up until the point when your child realizes that he's bigger and stronger than you are.
There is a compromise between non-disicpline and abuse. It takes work. Most of America has become used to instant gratification. Few people are willing to work at parent-child relationships.
And we aren't allowed to shoot other people's mistakes....
Oh, how I wish we could. So many people are only alive because it's against the law to kill them...

When I was in junior high school multiple decades ago no teacher could physically punish me. Only the school's principal could do that and only after severe provokation.

The principal's ability to keep me in line had nothing, I repeat, nothing to do with his power of the paddle. It had to do with my father's tender mercies which I would have to endure after I got home.

Discipline in school will improve only when parents gain control over their kids AND when schools have the right to exile children and their associated parental units from "free education." All tribal societies practice banishment and from the looks of it "tribal" is an appropriate descriptor.

Here ya' go...

Ya' know you're right...The difference is that all the members of the tribe took responsibility for the young. Talk about back-up! Not only were the parents responsible to the tribe, they were responsible FOR the tribe AND the kids!
It's too crazy...In the 50s-60s where I grew up, it wasn't unusual for kids to ride around on bicycles with a fishing rod and a shotgun or 22 across the handlebars on the way to one of the many ponds or lakes around the area. The deputies might stop you on the way to find out where the fishin' or huntin' was good, but that was the sum total of their interest. My folks didn't seem to mind as long as I was home within about an hour of dark...They called me with a ships brass bell that I could hear for about 3 miles depending...and if I heard it...I came...sheesh...You know, I don't even know where to start...My kids are 16 and 12 and one's always into somethin' and the other one isn't...They don't go around hurting animals and others though and get pretty good grades. I don't know what causes this kinda' crap anymore than anyone else...It sure feels different these days though...and I'd hate to think what would happen to one of my kids trying to ride around with a fishing rod and a 22 on their bikes these days...

My HS Algebra Teacher....

Had a rant that went more or less like:

"{name of victim du jour}.....You're no damned good! You drink your pot, and smoke your beer, you're no damned good! You might as well go jump out the window!"

(And if anyone recognizes this rant, PM me by all means!}

Needless to say, we weren't the mindless sheep brown shirt nazi youth schools are churning out these days, and no one jumped or threw anyone. Nor did we go crying to Mumsy & Dadsy complaining the mean wicked teacher harmed our precious self esteem.

We did what any reasonable human should: fail to take seriously the frustrated rantings of an otherwise good teacher who should have retired 10 years prior.

And yep, I _still_ can do my algebra after all these years.

Sure, not all teachers in public schools are creaps who throw students out of windows, get pregnant by their 15 year old students, tell their students that their perants are bad people because they're in the reserves and are going to Iraq, or pass a failing child just because it's easier than keeping hin/her back or teaching him/her in the first place. There are some good teachers in public schools. I'm as certain of this as you are.
But if you want to gamble with your childs education, health, and welfare, then you just go right ahead. I wont.:fire:

She has as much to do with teaching as Charles Whitman does with gun ownership.
Never fails. Whenever one malefactor pops up, everybody who has an axe to grind seizes on it as example of why THE WHOLE DAMN SYSTEM IS CORRUPT AND HAS TO GO, whether the axe in question is public education, police "brutality, gun control, taxes, etc. Get a grip, people. I strongly doubt you can show me a profession that is free of idiots, criminals, crazies or perverts. If you can, step up to the podium and document that claim.

How did one of our most beloved Governor expressed it one day?

"Education is too important to send my kids to public schools" (Gray Davis).

This example here shows how easy it is to produce a whole generation of Nazis. Someone who throws a fellow pupil out of a window will not hesitate tho force Jews to clean the parking lot with toothbrushes...

By the way, Heinrich Himmler was a teacher.

Id love to be able to interview the 2 guys that threw the girl out the window. Might go something like this:

Me: So why did you throw her out the window?
Them: The teacher told us!
Me: If your teacher told you to jump of a bridge would you do it?
Them: Umm No
Me: Then why did you do this?
Them: We wouldn't get hurt; she would and we had to follow the teacher's orders

Future JBT material:cuss: :cuss: Guess they will pull the trigger when the time comes to find a scape goat....

"By the way, Heinrich Himmler was a teacher."

"...Mussolini, who taught elementary school."

Jesus of Nazareth was also a teacher.
"Now about the midst of the feast, Jesus went up into the temple, and taught." - John 7:14.

Himmler and Mussolini were both gun owners. Anyone else want to play Six Degrees of Separation? ;)

I don't think anyone is saying the whole system is corrupt. But let's say 5% are, just to put a number on it. If I put my child in this system, what are the odds of the child comming in contact with a bum? How many teachers and or councillors will your child come in contact with by the time he/she completes High School?

Pre-school...1 to 2 Teachers and 1 to 2 assistants.

Kindergarten...1 or 2 more

Elementary...6 years times 2 teachers, one or 2 assistants and one guidance councillor

Middle School...3 years times 6 teachers, 2 or 3 assistants, and one guidance councillor

High School...3 years times 6 teachers, 2 coaches, and 1 or 2 career councillors etc, etc.

So at the age of 18 your kid has been exposed to 70 or more teachers and or administrators. That means in all likelihood, your kid will meet a rotten teacher before he/she graduates.

I suspect that 5% is very low, more like 15%, which means that there is a near mathematical certainty that your kid will have one or more of these creeps influence them.

Again, not mine.
