Gabby Giffords Says UBCs in Oregon Are Not Enough

Just fresh from a recent win by gun control supporters to require all gun sales to go through universal background checks, Gabby Giffords is saying that UBCs are not enough - gun bans and mandated storage requirements are a must as well.

For anyone who thinks that UBCs are the real goal here, note that Oregon has barely had their UBCs for six months - and they are already back at the table demanding more and worse gun laws before even attempting an honest assessment of whether the laws they just passed even have an effect.

It is a fight for our existence; but it can be fought and won. If you go back to the spiritual predecessor to this site (www.thefiringline.com), you can see the debates as they pushed for expanding the background check and other gun control in 1999. The media was almost universally anti-gun and even getting our message out was so hard - and we'd been facing defeat after defeat at the federal level and several prominent Republicans were joining to push more gun control. But it did get stopped and we did win - and you can read in the archives here the fights for concealed carry, the end of the 1994 ban, passing the Protection in Lawful Commerce of Arms act...

We can win; but we do need to recognize we are in a fight and the stakes aren't "reasonable common sense gun control" but complete gun bans pushed incrementally.
