Does anyone know if ALL 12 rd steel Galil mags are for firing blanks only?

I've seen them for sale on a couple of different websites...some specify blanks only, and others do not, indicating that they are for standard ammunition.

all of the 12 round galil mag was designed to feed grenade firing blanks that were used to shoot rifle grenades. They can be modified to feed normal ammo though. Some might have been modified by the seller but I doubt it.

I've never had to modify my mags. I use them in my Saiga with great results.

They will sometimes rock too much front to back, which causes a round to not feed. This can be fixed with a little jb-weld on the lock up of the mag.

Deer Hunter,
You are referring to the .223 12 round mags, right?

I plan on using one in my converted Saiga too, pending the feedback on the blank vs. real ammo question.

Where did you order yours from?

SaMx gave you the correct answer, the 12 rounders were for grenade blanks. In the IDF they were marked with a wide white stripe, IIRC.

CDNN is where I got them from. They were made to fire blanks, but they work just fine with real ammo out of my .223 Saiga.

Old picture, but you get the gist.

No problems with the ones I got from CDNN which are 12 round mags with the body marked 06 or some such date code.

The ones from Sportsmans guide have the spacer and need to be modified and the bodies are marked X7 or such. Skip the blank firing mags as IMHO not worth the trouble to modify.

yeah, they work just fine is saigas, but you might need to file down the front of the mag slightly for other .223 AKs. I can't remember where I read about the mods, but if the mag doesn't work it shouldn't be hard to figure out what needs to be changed by comparing it with a working mag.
