With the latest AK thread going like wildfire, I thought it would be a good time to ask.

I've only been pondering on this, so don't anyone get their panties in a knot. Just a "what if" question.

What if a guy modified his AK bolt handle, turned it into a Galil type, vertical bolt handle, using a similar bolt handle off something or another. Yes, professional welding required. Not looking for advice on how to actually do it. More of, would it be of any advantage?

The main problem I see is possibly catching one's jacket sleeve on the rear sight, when reaching over and operating the bolt left handed, Galil style. However, I notice many AK "operators" are using the technique with the regular AK bolt handle, which requires more of a reach over the sights than would be required with a vertical bolt handle.

???

If you like to use your left hand to cycle the bolt, you will find it an improvement.

If you train the change the magazine with your right hand, you may not find it any better.

No, I change mags with my left hand. I cycle the bolt with my right, but have thought about changing to the left-hand thing.
