Gander Mountain prices...

Careful. While most of their guns are overpriced, every now and then you can find a deal. I've seen a LNIB Colt SAA for $1200, a Browning 1886 for $700, a Marlin .444 for $295 and a Remington-Rand 1911 for $500. It pays to keep your eyes peeled.

I have to agree. I bought a Walnut K31 from there 3 months ago for $199, good condition. No complaints about the price at all. But yeah, usually their prices are crazy.

But they survive for so many years while many small shops went out of business! Someone must be buying there. I bought couple used guns and surplus while they used to sell at reasonable prices, not anymore!

I stopped shopping there when an employee was absolutely exasperated that I would not purchase a SIG P250 display model after I watched someone rack and smack and drop the empty slide a dozen times. I know it didn't hurt the gun, but I'm not paying full price for something that was manhandled right in front of me.

He rolled his eyes and acted like I had wasted his time. Since I had to order the gun anyway, I bought it from my local guy, had it in 2 days, and I paid $150 less. I only go in there to window shop and try out how a gun feels in my mitts before I order it from someone else. I might buy something used there from time to time if i have enough points and they are running a financing deal on their credit card.

I did find an SP101 there for a good price during the post drought when they were unobtanium.

Other than that, Gouger Mountain is awful.

I love my GM. Especially when they screw up, like calling a Remington # 2 rolling block a #4 and putting a price on it that was half what it was worth!!! I grabbed it in half a new york second. Also grabbed a Browning A-5 in 98% condition,12 gauge 3", made in Belgium. It was so new the decal under the forearm showing how to position the rings to go from magnum to standard loads was completely intact. I doubt the gun has had more than a box of shells run through it. I would post pics but this (expletive deleted) forum won't let me post the same picture twice, for reasons that cannot possibly make any sense.

My local Gander Mountain is always overpriced. The smaller local gun/hunting store just across the hiway from gander has cheaper ammo and firearms. Over a year ago Gander had a Ruger SR1911 used for $749. The new one was marked $699. I showed the clerk and he doubled checked the price and said it was correct. He also followed it up with ,"corporate makes the prices." I got the same qoute from a manager prior to that about their ammo prices.

My 5 year old grandson loves going there, he will look at nearly everything in the store, so I take him once a month or so. In the process of doing this I have gotten some pretty good deals when they have sales, just after Christmas I bought a pair of Merrell Moab Gore-Tex hiking shoes for half price, great shoes. Last year I had picked out a scope for a rifle I was putting together and had looked extensively online trying to get the best price, so I knew what everybody was asking; I was pretty surprised when GM had the same scope on sale for 70$ less than anywhere I had been able to find online.

I fish a good bit, Academy is one of my favorite stores for lures. A little high but good selection.

Gander Mountain very near my favorite LGS is a ghost town. Anyone who buys a gun there is a pure idiot. Now GM might have other toys that you can place your mitts on right away however in my old age I've gained a degree of patience..
I'm glad I could provide you with something funny to laugh at. Some times the heart over takes the brain. This was the first one of these rifles I had seen in 45-70 in 6 years. But since my favorite small town gun shop went out of business, I still crave the presence of blued steel and walnut.

Their every day prices are way too high, but they have some great sales.

I got a Glock 19 Gen 3 for $490 when everyone else in my area was selling them for $550.
I got a pair of Irish Setter boots there for $90 which were selling for $170 everywhere else.

The one in my area closed down, and the largest LGS around moved in, their prices are too high as well in my opinion.

Nature Boy, I paid $750 for the A-5, sold it to a Browning lover for $1000. It was about a 99% gun. Made in 76, or 75, not sure what the last year of Belgium production was.

Thanks for the tip, Art. But I am totally computer stupid. I don't know how to do what you suggested. I will seek help. (I am constantly being told to "get help")
