I have an emerging collection of well done Sixties era sporterized military rifles that I call "The Cousin Earl Collection" because as someone on THR pointed out, they were done by Bubba's older and wiser cousin with a lot more attention to detail. So far, we have the Krag, the M49 Persian Mauser, and the M94 Swedish Mauser.

I was thinking about what next and, with that piece of garbage that pretends to be a legislature in Albany just having passed a Mongolian Cluster F**k of a Gun Owner Discrimination Act, I would like a semi-auto.

I haven't seen any Garand Sporters other than this one:

a European conversion to 8x57 which I have to say is jolly nice.

Just wondering if anyone else has one (pics please) or a line on one?

A company used to do belted magnum conversions on Garands here in the US. I've seen .338 Win Mags and .458 Win Mags. They were very low volume production, and almost impossible to find now. I forget the name of the company, I'm sure a google search would turn something up though.

I've seen M1941 Johnson sporters too. Prepare to pay $2500+ for one of those though.

The only Garand altered that I have seen is a Tanker done by Schuffs Parkerizing. Very nice gun, he still does them but the conversion is pricey.

Just to clarify - I would not sporterize a Garand (shock, horror, dismay). I'm interested in well done examples of those that have already been so rendered, that the evil deed may redound to their creator, rather than unto me.

If you ahhhhhhhhhh "Sportsterize" an M1, the ghost of John C. Garand will haunt you forever.......

Now, tuning one up or restoring one, gets you a tip-o-the-hat from said ghost...
