THE CHAIR IS AGAINST THE WALL
Does anyone have a handy breakdown of what it would cost to go and compete in the pistol matches at Camp Perry?

I'd like to go this year, and need to get an idea of how much I'll need for food, lodging, ammo, range/match fees, etc.

Also, a ballpark round count would be great, too.

I want to go to Perry, but I don't want to fly. Considering where I live, it's a long drive: lots of gas and lots of mileage.

I used to go yearly back in the 1970's.

If you can get there the cost is relatively cheap, or at least it used to be. They had on-post housing for next to nothing, and competitors got meal tickets for the mess hall. The Army loaned out .45 match grade pistols for a small deposit, and it was returned when you brought back the gun. Expendable supplies like cleaning patches and solvent were free.

If you write the NRA I'm sure they'd give you current details, including specific costs. Thereafter all you'd have too do is plug in your travel costs.

Be warned though, if you do go the experience is adictive...

Camp Perry Cost.

We go for the CMP Service Rifle Week from Texas. We convoy up, stay overnight one night coming and going and stay in rented cabins off base. Without the bill for Commercial Row, which was a couple thousand last year, you could do the week for about 600.00 bucks from here.

You might check the CMP site for more info. Staying on base is cheaper in the barracks or huts. No meal tickets anymore at Perry- a tornado wrecked the mess hall and they tore it down in the late 90s.

Since you live in CT I assume you will drive.

There are plenty of CT folks who go (they have at least two teams there). So car pooling is a definate maybe.

My cost is: The match fees ($300 approx), food ($300), lodging ($400) and transportation ($100) will run you about $1000 total. You can save some on lodging if you share a hut. You can also save on food if you don't go out to eat too much. Off base lodging can be had pretty cheap too if you choose to share a room or trailer but still more expensive than a hut.

Add to the costs aboce the requisite purchases on commercial row... you will want to have at least $500-$1000 handy for the row. You can save a lot on shipping and hazmat fees too.

I was going to say $2000 to cover everything (including vendor's row).

I went last year--had a buddy take all my gear out in his 5th wheel. I flew into Louisville with the rifle and clothes and my dad and I drove up from there.

What if I wanted to bring my camp trailer...?

I'm a vet, but not retired. Not active -so I don't get any military privelages. Are there RV spots with hookups available on post for prices less than renting a cabin/trailer on post, or something off post?

I don't even know if I'd compete in the pistol classes, maybe just go watch and take in vendors row. .. .I suppose if I was there, I guess I'd give it a shot.:D
