Here is the question.. I am looking at 2 different bullets one is a 25-grain Vmax and on is the same brand/weight, but a Hollow Point.
The Hodgdon site only lists the 25 grain HP load data, but I want to use the 25g Vmax. Can I use the load data provided for the HP, for the Vmax??

The reason I ask, the BC is different from the HP to the Vmax. It is not huge (something like .193 ((HP)) and .235 for the ((Vmax)), but definitely different.. Will this make a pressure issue?

Is there a rule of thumb with loading, IE: same bullet weights, but higher BC equals more/less pressures at same load (same powder and weight)??

Any help here would be greatly appreciated.:banghead:

You can use the Start load data and work your way up as usual.

Just don't use the MAX load charge and Gofer It.

The thing is though, Hornady bullets pretty much all use a Secant Ogive shape which tends to make the full diameter bearing surface longer then a comparable weight speer-point or HP.

So, they might give more bore friction.
So you might not get to the MAx load for a different bullet before seeing pressure signs.

The Hornady reloading manual has the 17 caliber 25 grain V-Max (#17105) and the 17 caliber, 25 grain hollow point (#1710) listed in the same set of data for both 17 caliber rounds they have data for.

Still, as rcmodel says, start at the starting level.
