hey guys n' gals,
Someone dropped out of reloading and generously gifted me 200 bullets that are Hornady 10mm, 200gr XTP JHP.

I load for .40 S&W and I don't have a single load listed for Unique powder and a 200 grain pill. I'd welcome load suggestions or recipes if anyone has 'em.

Well, Hornady #4 & #6 lists 10 or more powders for the .40/200 XTP, but Unique isn't one of them.

Lee shows 4.8 - 5.3 Max with a 200 jacketed.

My old notes indicate Hercules used to list 5.3 Max also.
Alliant no longer lists it.

Then there is this:
http://www.reloadammo.com/40loads.htm

I'd probably try 4.8, then 5.0 or so, and see what develops.

lee manual has 200 gr jacketed with unique

start is 4.8@876 fps
max is5.3@955 minimum seating is 1.130 but again that said jacketed not xtp

Nice bullets, I just got 1000 in 180 gr. free with purchase of my Hornady LnL AP! :)

My Hornady 7th Edition lists my absolute favorite .40 cal. powder for the 200 gr. bullets, AA #7 from 6.6 gr. to 8.8 gr.-700 fps to 950 fps. I love this powder, it is very fine, dense ball powder and meters from a powder measure beautifully. It is also fairly low flash, makes follow-up shots easier.

Well I'm new enough to reloading that I've stuck strictly to one powder (Unique) for right now just to reduce the variables I have to cope with. I think I'll try out some other stuff soon though so I'll keep that "AA #7" recipe on hand.

Good decision really. No need to start throwing all sorts of "pinches" in your bread until you can turn out a nicely finished plain loaf or two. I started out loading and went powder-crazy, and ended up working my way back around to a few favorites. Starting with one powder that covers several calibers you shoot when you first get started is good thinking, cheers!
