Since Rep. Bearden and the other House members of the committee were unable to reach the Senate members, despite repeated attempts, they decided to just set a time for the first conference committee meeting for HB89. As amended by the House, the bill would eliminate many of the egregious "Public Gathering" restrictions on the lawful carriage of firearms. The Senate version doesn't include such language; in fact, the Senate's unofficial position seems to be "our way or nothing." Yet they have the (round male body parts) to claim that it's the House that doesn't want to negotiate!

Anyways, please get on the horn with and write your state Senator and with Senators Eric Johnson, Don Balfour, Ronnie Chance, and Joseph Carter. Also call and write to Lieutenant Governor Casey Cagle, and Governor Perdue. Heck, even if you aren't from Georgia, feel free to throw in your two dollar bills (stupid inflation...) on the issue

If I'm wrong, I will gladly eat my hat.

However, just know that the Georgia Senate has no intention of allowing HB89 to pass. Only one brave soul in that chamber of spineless jellyfish would have needed to object when Senate Rules Chairman Don Balfour (Republican) moved that the Senate reject all the changes to the gun bill added by the House. These changes would have removed CCW restrictions that are more restrictive than California, and had their root in racist Jim Crow laws. Not one Senator stood up and opposed Balfour's rejection of these pro-gun changes...not ONE.

Vote these so-called “Republican” anti-gun rascals out in November!!

I'm still wondering what crack in the wall they shoved HB 915 into. Maybe the proponents are waiting on the D.C. decision, so they might have more firepower when it comes to passing these bills.

It never got out of the House Rules Committee. Since we are past crossover day, HB915 will cannot do anything this year.

I think they were counting on the amended HB89 getting it done this year. But, since the Senate are being poor sports, we may not get anything this year.

According to GeorgiaPacking.org, the Conference Committee meeting is scheduled for Thursday, 8am in Capitol Building room 132.

Be there if you can.

The meeting originally scheduled for tomorrow morning has been canceled.

Apparently talks have begun behind closed doors, however.

From the latest GCO update:
The scheduled hearing for tomorrow (Thursday) morning on HB 89 is cancelled.

Ironically, this is a good sign. The Senate is now talking to the House, and they are, according to reliable reports, negotiating in good faith on the House amendment to HB 89. GCO is confident that a good bill is going to come out of the committee that will move this state forward on the right to bear arms, particularly on the issue of Georgia's places off limits.

I'm not sure what's going on. I was looking at the GCO site. Geogia's off limits places needs a serious reduction. It really is more restrictive than most states.

I've checked the GCO site also, and I can't find a reference to the comments quoted in DJAteOhAte's post.
